I came here because I love Astronomy, have a 14" computerized telescope that I use mainly for photography so it's good to give computing time to my hobby.
All but one of my computers uses ECC Ram and pass diagnostics yet I get a lot of invalids or Validation inconclusive, why? One is an i7 W10, all the others are Mac 5.1's, server spec machines.
Another answer I don't have is why the Darwin computers don't show up in the computer types as being in use.

Thanks for any guidance from a Newbie.

Your computers are hidden - so we can't see any of your results. Need to unhide them so people can see what is going on with your invalids. But inconclusives are just this project's strange way of classifying completed tasks waiting on a confirming result from another computer - most other projects would just say classify them as pending.

What fraction of your WUs result in validation errors (not validation inconclusive)? Are you running CPU or GPU? What applications are you crunching for (Separation and/or Nbody)?

Running CPU, Separation. Where in the menu is 'un-hide computers'?

Put a checkmark in the box on this line: Should MilkyWay@home show your computers on its web site?

I don't see anything out of the ordinary except for this host. https://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/show_host_detail.php?hostid=901111
Lots of invalids pertaining to missing OpenCL instructions.
But your other host with the same OS has no issues with a different card.
So, I would say, card glitched or OS glitched with the drivers. Try a reboot to fix. If that does not work then, you'll have to get a MacOS expert to assist further.
Also your other hosts with the HD 5770 cards are taking way too long to run a gpu task compared to any other of your wingmen. I don't know anything about that card but that seems abnormal.
Your tasks look like they are processing at cpu speeds and not gpu speeds. I wouldn't bother running on those hosts and save the power.

Thanks for the advice, that was the computer that concerned me the most. It's getting a CPU upgrade due to that model Xeon is not very power efficient, just waiting on them, in the mean time I have changed the video card to a 5770 to see if there is a change.
The computers were left on line to stress test them and I will put them back to normal operation sometime today but still doing tasks as they become available.
Really appreciate the help you have given a 'Newbe'.

I see that the new updated host with the HD 7770 card is now behaving itself. I also think the issue of slow tasks is simply the card does not have enough memory to run the application at its best.
1 GB is very small compared to most of the gpus being used on projects. You wouldn't even be sent tasks for the Gravity Wave applications as they require a minimum of 4GB of VRAM on gpus.

G'Day Rick,

From what I can see, most of the Validaion Inconclusive work units are just waiting for a wingman to return their work so it can be compared to your work and then validated.
They are marked as pending as they are still waiting on the other person.

The invalids I am not sure about, possibly just not agreeing with the other person's returned result. Other people who know more might be able to expand on that.

Not interested in updating the GPU's as a priority but am interested in having my computing 'off grid' already have 50KWh of Lion batteries, need to sort out a controller and a turbine as I have wind 80% of the time.
Your help has been very welcome, all but one of the computers came from the scrap yard. If I come across a 4GB GPU I will install it.

Thanks for the input. Credits and that don't concern me, just want to contribute as I am an Armature Astronomer and take photo's of Spiral Galaxies and the idea of being part of 3D mapping spins my wheels!
If you guys can help me be more efficient in my contribution then I am very thankful for that :-)

Done a processor update and ram update on a couple of computers, no GPU at this time, any worthwhile change?

None to speak of with respect to cpu use only.

Peruse the Number Crunching forum and lurk here. That is where performance tweaks are discussed or current issues with tasks. Depending on which card type you use, AMD or Nvidia, you may get more production out of running multiples per card. The instructions and examples are in this forum.
