Unable to join the project? a solution ? You are already getting credits here, that means you are already attached to the Project. Now if you mean you want your own account instead of using an Account Manager like Science United or GridReplublic or even GRCPool then you need to remove MilkyWay under them then signup here using your Zarck account and be crunching for you and not their Team |

The same thing happens to me, I get a message, "failed to add the project, please try again later", it happens to me since the last server problems, in other projects I do not have this problem except with Cosmology that also happens to me, what I do not understand is that if I can log in the Milkway@home page with username and password that is the same as in the Boinc project without any problem, also say that I do not use any account manager, I would appreciate that some expert of the project solve this problem. thanks and greetings. |

Cosmology's problems are known and they are waiting for their own IT people to fix them. When you try to add the project thru the Boinc Manager and you click on MilkyWay to add it try deleting the https:\\ first leaving all the rest and see if that works |

I had a similar issue on my Windows computer; turns out it was a SSL issue and installing a Microsoft update fixed it. (I installed BOINC before I updated Windows. D'oh) |

Having the same issue. InitializeSecurityContext failed: SEC_E_ILLEGAL_MESSAGE this is the only project I cannot add and I don't even get to the username and password dialog in BOINC Manager. |

Having the same issue. Did you make sure that all available updates for Windows are installed? This seems to have helped others in this thread and when I google SEC_E_ILLEGAL_MESSAGE I get lots of results regarding Windows Updates. |

I did update windows 10 to version 22H2, reset ssl cache, reinstalled boinc, nothing works. I can add any other project except Milkyway. also got this from commandline effort: C:\Program Files\BOINC>boinccmd --lookup_account https://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/ emailxxxxx passwordxxxxx status: Success poll status: operation in progress poll status: transient HTTP error trying to resolve it now this has not happened until the latest server issue a few days ago. |

D'oh) Okay thanks because I tried getting updates for Win7 and it says there are none available, the pc is not eligible to go to Win11 for free anymore so I may just drop in a Linux disk and run it instead. I've had to do that to several pc's both old and new as I'm not paying for an MS number and since I live in the US the ones I've bought online from the UK places get kicked pretty quickly. |

When I need to use Windows on a BOINC only box I just install the trial version of Windows 10. It will tell you, you need to buy a license and leave a permanent watermark on the lower right of the screen, but outside of that everything else works fine. (I think some advanced features are disabled, but ive not found out what) and for BOINC it's not an issue |

the pc is not eligible to go to Win11 for free anymore You can always use your Windows 7 Key to install Windows 10 or 11, you just need to do a clean install, which is recommended anyway after that many years. It's just the upgrade from inside of Windows 7 that isn't possible anymore. |

I did update windows 10 to version 22H2, reset ssl cache, reinstalled boinc, nothing works. I can add any other project except Milkyway. Try to add Milkyway with <http_debug> and <http_xfer_debug> enabled in cc_config.xml. |

OK. So it turns out the Windows Update fix is for real. I didn't get access to the the update required for 6 days. First, I have to "upgrade" from Windows 10 Home 21H1 to Windows 10 Home 22H2. Then after a reboot I ran Windows Update and got the cumulative update for 22H2 (KB5018482). After another reboot Milkyway files were downloaded, wu ran, files uploaded. Everything worked. :) Hope this helps someone. |

First time in history Windows Update fixed something. Need to save this thread forever. |
