One for the HOG scrapbook. Entry in the Top 20 Participants with a RAC of 150,000 plus. Improbability is still rising, but the moral of the story for me is clear. Buy a graphic card with the intention of getting rid of your old computers and drain on your electricty bill, and you may end up with three graphic cards and more PCs humming in your garage than you had before. However, watching that RAC and your credits rising is more than worth the expense and effort. Some say that credits are valueless. I say they represent the contribution that you make to science projects, and are damn fun to watch as your team propels upwards in the BOINC top 100. |

Rocket Man Rocket Man is running low on fuel. Not much gain in altitude now. Time to deploy the chute. Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

Some say that credits are valueless. I say they represent the contribution that you make to science projects, and are damn fun to watch as your team propels upwards in the BOINC top 100. And the downward spiral of rejecting science and becoming a credit whore begins... But, from a scientific point of view, there appears to be a correlation between the speed and downward force of the spiral and the number of gpus. |

Yes, the team I am in are doing good in SETI, and dare I say that with a little help from my GPUs here, they are doing good in MilkyWay. |

Slicker wrote: And the downward spiral of rejecting science and becoming a credit whore begins... Now, let me get this straight: You run a GPU app, or you literally consider buying a better graphics card so you CAN run a GPU app (as I have - even though I have no other use for such a card than running BOINC apps). Ultimately, more and more people run GPU apps, and more science gets processed as a result. A lot more. I thought this was supposed to be about the science, and this results in more science being "done", which I thought was the whole point. So, any interest in your place in the BOINC standings makes you a credit whore, and, thus morally inferior to you "I only care about the science types"? Is that it? |
