1. Is this true? 1: Yes, it is true. 2: Couple prerequisites: - ATI Catalyst 8.12 or 9.1 recommended, 9.2 will work with renaming some files - An AMD/ATI Radeon HD38xx or 48xx graphics card (which you have) - ATI GPU application. Ice hosts some at zslip.com, you should be able to find the link on here - Windows XP or Vista (both 32- and 64-bit work AFAIK) (Windows 7 will work, but you need to copy some DLLs from a Vista install) - BOINC install that does not have the protected install The application download comes with a DLL file, an executable, and an app_info to direct BOINC to use the application rather than the stock. You should just be able to shut down BOINC, stick the three files in Milkyway@Home's project directory, and start BOINC again. |

1. Is this true? I've just posted the steps to install the ATI card here in 'The GPU Ripple' |

I've just posted the steps to install the ATI card here in 'The GPU Ripple' Works better, but doesn't mention that a protected install doesn't work with it. That's the one thing that had blocked me before, as while that protected off may be the default in 6.4.x and later, it's on by default in 6.2.x and earlier. |

I just found the other ripple thread and started ding what it lists. What is required to rename under 9.2? I will see if I can find 9.1 but... It's fine I poked through ATI and found the older 9.1 |

I just found the other ripple thread and started ding what it lists. Three DLL files in C:\Windows\System32. I don't remember the exact names, but they are ati*.dll, and need to be amd*.dll. I think it's something like atical*.dll, but I don't remember exactly. EDIT: "amdcalcl64.dll", "amdcaldd64.dll" and "amdcalrt64.dll" are what the names are supposed to be, at least on my 64-bit system. |

This should compliment my Q6600 production nicely now... |

This should compliment my Q6600 production nicely now... Just be prepared for less graphics performance... Even Windows slows down. ;) |

This should compliment my Q6600 production nicely now... I do not do alot of gaming anymore anyway... It should not slow down THAT much with 8 gigs installed... but then again it IS Vista... I do not even run my card above 1600X1200 anyway. |

This should compliment my Q6600 production nicely now... I'm running with 8GB of RAM under Windows 7 with a 1440x900 display, and it still slows down. It's most noticeable with the minimize or maximize animations. |

What is it you need to do to get it to work with Windows 7? Also, with what you said about the 9.2 Catalyst, do you rename those files, or do you copy and rename them so both exist? |

I haven't tried Catalyst 9.2, so I can't tell you. I'm running Catalyst 8.12 for Win7 beta, with the amdcal*.dll files from a Vista Catalyst 9.1 install. I can probably host those files for others if they need them. |

That would be most excellent if you could. Tho, I did install the Vista 9.2 Catalyst to my Windows 7 machine, you think I'd just need to rename my ati*.dll files? I'm hesitant to just try it after all the WUs I've errored already by messing around with this stuff. :( |
