Not sure what or why and exactly when, but, when I re-boot my XP Pro Win-64 installation with the super GPU application I get this:

<core_client_version>6.5.0</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[
<message>
There are no child processes to wait for. (0x80) - exit code 128 (0x80)
</message>
]]>

see sample task

I am not sure if it happens as the system goes down, or when it is coming back up and the system tries to run the tasks before the GPU app is ready ...

This is not a CRITICAL error to me ... but, it is an issue that may be local to me, or part of the GPU app because BOINC does not know about the AIT GPU and the GPU application ...

Just one more thing to pile on (sorry, sorry, sorry) ...

Again, color me happy, but I thought I should report this ...

If this happens when the system is starting up you can add
<start_delay>nn</start_delay>
flag to the options part in your cc_config.xml
nn = number of seconds to delay start=up of client apps after boinc start.

You'll need to reinstall BOINC without the protected application execution enabled, or service install.

Boinc is installed as service.
I stopped the service boinc, copied the 3 files brook.dll, astronomy_0.19_ATI_x64b.exe, app_info.xml
into D:\BOINC\DATA\projects\milkyway.cs.rpi.edu_milkyway
then restarted boinc.
------------------------
Does it exactly mean Boinc should no run as service ?

It's an option you get when you install Boinc - Install as service Y/N

It means do you want it to run (automatically) as a service, ie, initiated on Windows startup.

Yes. At least if you are running Vista, the application (running under a limited account) cannot access the GPU in a protected mode (service) install of BOINC. Actually it is the same behaviour as with CUDA apps.
It appears not to be a problem with XP.

The latest ATI driver 9-2_vista64_dd_75977.exe is installed

The latest version 9.2 does not work as-is with the optimised apps.

Try versions 9.1 or 8.12. Mine never worked with XP 9.1, but did with XP 8.12
