I already started a post on this for XP and that is working fine but what about for ubuntu linux? I downloaded the files and searched for what I did on Xp and it didn't come up. I did however find a folder called boinc-client but when I open it and try to click on projects it says I dont have promission even though I am the only user. What should I do here... And I am very new with linux so please put step by step directions. Thanks!!!! |

So you have to ask permission as ROOT (Super User) to sort this out. I presume the graphics browser in your version is Nautilus, otherwise change the name here. Open a CONSOLE from the menu. Type sudo nautilus (sudo lets you DO a command as Super User) enter password browse to wherever you d/loaded the files (that'll be /home/yourname/download probably) click COPY on the files now browse to where MW lives, which is probably /var/lib/boinc-client/projects/milkyway.cs.rpi.edu_milkyway, and paste the files there. rightclick each file, select Permissions, and check "this file is executable" |

I got it in the folder but every time it connects it redownloads the stock app and uses that again. What should I do? And thanks for the help so far! |

It did that for me when the Boinc task/app was still running. Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

Make sure you got file app_info.xml into the milkyway folder and that the permissions say everyone can read it. [Erm, you did extract the files from the archive you downloaded, I hope? milkyway_0.18_xxx_i686pc-linux-gnu and app_info.xml] Restart the machine and if it doesnt go, paste the log up here. |

paste the log up here. Yea but you need whopping great nails to get that log onto this board, and then the mods might complain it makes this tech area too rural or sommat. |

paste the log up here. I agree, Linux shouldn't be too interleaved. |
