I noticed an user running 8 hosts. 5 Hosts reports 64 CPUs with Vista X64 - and with a full cache of 64 x 6 workunits in progress!
How is this possible?

Example:

"GenuineIntel
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz [Intel64 Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 11]
(64 processors) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 (896MB) Microsoft Windows Vista
Ultimate x64 Edition, Service Pack 2, v.275, (06.00.6002.00) 14 Jun 2009 15:5"

Of course 63 of those processors are required just to run vista. :D

A server possibly?
Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected?
If it makes sense, DON'T do it.

OK a motherboard with 16 Q6600 CPUs - but what is the then:

"GenuineIntel
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8600 @ 2.40GHz [Intel64 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 6]
(64 processors) Microsoft Windows Vista
Ultimate x64 Edition, Service Pack 2, v.275, (06.00.6002.00) 20 May 2009 20:01:38 UTC"

32 Core 2 Duo CPUs in 1 server?

But who would put vista on a server?!
Actually, who would put vista on anything? :)
Cheers,

its a mod. boincmgr to get more MW work made by a user of the glorious Team Planet3Dnow! :

it reports 64 CPUs to boinc project even if you got only 1 core
it requests every 60s work for MW if you belong to the correct team

I have a friend - a builder - he used run it on his concrete mixer but then he discovered that mixing concrete with man-power is quicker and produce a better quality concrete :)
PS He tried a demo/beta of Win7 but it only works if he replaces the 2 cylinder engine with a V8

Modified version of the BOINC manager is my guess.

thats wrong - you can only get up to 48 WUs even if you got more than 8 CPUs/Cores etc

In what sense? As far as I was aware, the only limit is 6 WUs per core. So if BOINC is told you have 64 cores, 6*64 WUs would be wanted. Also, if this guy has his computer visible, it would be seen that he could have this amount of WUs. OP seems to suggest his computers are open.

You are quite right - I only looked at the first 2 pages.
The computers are visible here

The problem is - MW is only sending work for up to 8 Cores/CPUs whatever. ... so the current maximum WU-cache/bunker is 48 WUs per System. If you need more WU/s you have to run some VMs on your system

If you got a 12 Core System like a Dual-Istanbul-System you wont get enough work.

But if you got a Singlecore-CPU like the (my) old Athlon(64) with a MW-working GPU - 6 WUs are a bad joke... so 48 WUs are nice !

Aha - I'm guessing this is a MW imposed limit? 6 WU per core, max 48WU per machine. Where's that 128 threaded Xeon EX X7460 cluster when you need it :p

Hi,

Anyone have a link to the boincmgr mod ?

I too have been contemplating modifying the boincmgr source.
