If I don't get new WU soon I'll be forced to turn up my heat. :o

i just finished a 1.95cpu one in 18.08mins on a phenom II x6 3ghz anyways i don't like these multithreaded apps my cores are already being used to run other wu's and wouldn't mind being able to turn it off also i wouldn't like to see other projects use multithreading boinc already allows multitasking either running multiple milkyway wu's or different wu's from other projects and i personally think these mt wu's are detrimental to other projects i only have 2 cpu's for crunching and the third for handing none boinc stuff so it doesn't interfere with wu's and trying to balance the cpu resources the best i can the only reason i tolerate it now is because its only 18mins if it took hours i would be pressing abort and no longer accepting wu's if milkyway wants to use mt units either give us an option to turn them on/off or send them to clients that have 8-12+ cores

My Preferences are set to switch every hour and MW doesn't give me too many CPU WU. So it doesn't affect my other 3 Projects(ClimatePrediction, Einstein, Rosetta) much

.40 WU are estimated at 5+ hours for me. Using all 6 of my 1055Ts CPU finishes a WU in just under 1 hour. Would be nice if other Projects could Multithread, especially ClimatePrediction.

Some of my CPU work units state 20-40 hours but they rarely take over 8 hours. I am not sure why. My guess is the time prediction algorithm is not quite accurate. Or perhaps because PCs can store solutions to the most commonly done problems in the cache therefore the more work they do, perhaps the larger their lookup table becomes and the faster they go. I dont know. I'm guessing.

The CPU WU's use as many Cores as you have available, at least the .40 ones do. So that is probably why there's a discrepancy between the estimated time and the actual time. I get 5+ hours estimated for a .40, but <1 hour actual and it uses all 6(5.85 actually) of my Cores.

That's a pretty old system now. I would suspect a failing Motherboards or perhaps Power Supply. Many of the Motherboards of that era had Capacitor issues. To check for that, Open your Case and look at your capacitors(little pop/soda can looking things). If any of their tops are bulging(they should be perfectly flat) or leaking ooze, it's only a matter of time before the system completely fails. That could be a long time, but errors will continue both in your Projects and likely OS/Apps as well.

How is your Case airflow? Just got a 5870(replaced a 4850) a couple weeks back and my GPU Temps were upper 70c/80% Fan Speed with too much Fan noise for my small apartment and the heat within my old case(Xaser III) caused my CPU to overheat. Bought a new case(Zalman Z9 Plus) and now my GPU Temps are 69c/57% Fan Speed making for a much cooler CPU and quieter system overall.
