Yeah, 750W seems to be all you need for most setups I would imagine. My other rig has a 750W powering two GTX680s. It could probably power a third 680 but I think that would be getting awful close to its limit. I originally built the Nvidia rig with a 1000W PSU but soon realized it was really overkill for what I needed.

Well, I finally got this rig rebuilt and the old 6950 put back in with the 7950. After a few minutes of figuring out how to edit the cc_config I seem to have everything working.

Mikey, I replaced the 850W Silverstone PSU I had in my case with a new 750W Corsair. The Corsair is fully modular, which helps my airflow considerably. The Silverstone was not modular at all and so I was left with a slew of unused cables taking up space in my case. Power consumption right now with the two GPUs running along with the two remaining CPU cores crunching WCG is still well below 750W. My power monitor is reading around 550W and that's including the 5-year-old 46" LCD TV I'm using as a monitor at the moment. I should have plenty of headroom, I think.

Thanks for the help!

Thanks, Arkayn. This is my first foray into a non-standard setup. I'll post my results here afterward.

Can I run two different generations of ATI GPU in one computer if they are not in Crossfire? I upgraded not long ago, and now my 6950 is just laying around. If I can put it back in my case and run it on MW along with the 7950 that would be ideal.

Thanks for any help.

Yes, since my last post I've increased the power limit 20% which has resulted in some improvement, with the card varying between 850MHz at 100% GPU load and 1200MHz for brief periods where the load drops to 60 - 65%. Temperature is around 60.

I'm not sure what is causing the different behavior, but as I posted a while back, I used to be able stay at 1200MHz without ever dropping, and that was without adjusting the power in any way.

When I first came back to this project a week or so ago, I was running POEM on my card at a constant 1200MHz and when that task finished and it started into my MW queue, the card stayed at a constant 1200 until Windows applied an update overnight and the computer rebooted without my realizing. I've been trying to test this scenario again, but POEM is not sending GPU WUs at the moment and other projects don't seem to produce the same result with this technique.

POEM by default put very little load on the GPU, and as I stated above my card running MW only jumps to the full speed when my GPU load drops significantly, which it does not do when at default power target settings. Is this normal behavior? And I'm still curious as to why a card that is stock 925MHz from the manufacturer would EVER run at 850MHz under full load.

Sorry. Been away for a while. For anyone still monitoring this thread:

My voltage is currently 1075, but I'm having the issue with MW running at 850MHz again, which is lower than the stock 925MHz and the 1200MHz I have it set to through CCC and used to get consistently. GPU load is always at or near 100% with one CPU core free.

I'm noticing a number of these as well. They eventually change status to "valid" and grant credit for the WU. Is this because the results were firmed up, or are we just getting credit for doing the work regardless of whether it returned any meaningful results?

Thanks. I use my card for a number of different projects (Milkyway, PrimeGrid, POEM, SETI, Collatz). What do you run on for memory, or do you know where I should target?

Had this down-clocking issue initially after I put my Sapphire HD7950 in. I'm OC to 1200MHz in Catalyst Control but MW was only running around 850MHz. I switched projects for a day or so (to POEM, I think) which ran at the full 1200. I then tried switching back to MW and it ran at the full 1200. Never had a problem since then.

I'm using the 13.4 drivers. MW units are finishing between 23 and 33 seconds.

GPU load floats around 90%. Temps average mid 50s to low 60s with fans varying between 43 and 49% normally.

Not sure what actually fixed the problem. I'm seeing a lot of people recommending to increase power by 20%. I'm still running on stock power setting with GPU and Memory clocks maxed out (1200 & 1575).

Just curious what card you're doing this with. I'm running single MW WUs on a Radeon HD 6950. WUs take about 90 seconds at 98% GPU load and approx 10% GPU memory. I'd like to try multiple WUs at a time, but it doesn't look like I have much extra room.

I did get a good batch of work after things resumed, but now I've gone through it all and I'm not receiving anything again. Hopefully it's just some lag in the system... Keep up the good work!
