invalid result why?
(Message 45582)
Posted 15 Jan 2011 by DJStarfox Post: The apps on Arkayns site are the current opti apps which many users are still using. They are still approved for use at this time. Are you sure? See this message by Arkayns himself. http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/forum_thread.php?id=2164&nowrap=true#45571 |

invalid result why?
(Message 45576)
Posted 15 Jan 2011 by DJStarfox Post: Apparently, the optimized apps for CPU are very out of date. I've reverted to stock for x86_64 but using the anonymous platform for SSE optimizations. Hopefully, my results going forward will be a closer match to everyone's. |

application optimized N Body
(Message 45575)
Posted 15 Jan 2011 by DJStarfox Post: I had no idea that existed. I put stuff here: http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/download/src/ http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/forum_forum.php?id=19 There are several sticky threads (in the Application Code Discussion forum) with the old link at the top. Thanks for the updated link. Seems like there needs to be some forum thread cleanup. |

Posted 15 Jan 2011 by DJStarfox Post: I removed the CPU apps from the site due to them being completely outdated. I only have the GPU Windows apps up currently. I see that the source code in http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/download/code_release/ is also out of date at about the same time (version 0.19). Do you know where the latest source code is (version 0.50)? Seems like the whole project is focusing on GPU and leaving us CPU crunchers out to dry. |

Posted 14 Jan 2011 by DJStarfox Post: Hey, that's my computer. I wonder why are results don't match? My executables are milkyway 0.18 and nbody 0.07. I think these are out of date, but they are the latest available on the opt apps page. I run on CPU only. I've set nomorework for now until I hear back from someone on the status of optimized apps. |

Here is mine for reference. <app_info> <app><!-- Optimized app --> <name>milkyway</name> <user_friendly_name>MilkyWay@Home</user_friendly_name> </app> <file_info> <name>milkyway_0.18_sse4.2_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu</name> <executable/> </file_info> <app_version> <app_name>milkyway</app_name> <version_num>16</version_num> <file_ref> <file_name>milkyway_0.18_sse4.2_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu</file_name> <main_program/> </file_ref> </app_version> <app_version> <app_name>milkyway</app_name> <version_num>18</version_num> <file_ref> <file_name>milkyway_0.18_sse4.2_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu</file_name> <main_program/> </file_ref> </app_version> <app><!-- stock app for N-Body --> <name>milkyway_nbody</name> <user_friendly_name>MilkyWay@Home nbody Simulation</user_friendly_name> </app> <file_info> <name>milkyway_nbody_0.07_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu</name> <executable/> </file_info> <app_version> <app_name>milkyway_nbody</app_name> <version_num>7</version_num> <file_ref> <file_name>milkyway_nbody_0.07_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu</file_name> <main_program/> </file_ref> </app_version> </app_info> |

Updated separation to 0.50
(Message 45564)
Posted 14 Jan 2011 by DJStarfox Post: Is this new update to separation 0.50 going to break all of us with the optimized applications? I'm running Fedora Linux x86_64. Lately, tasks continue to run and finish, but there are a a lot of "validation inconclusive" results. My current applications are: milkyway_0.18_sse4.2_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu milkyway_nbody_0.07_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu |

(Message 44326)
Posted 27 Nov 2010 by DJStarfox Post: I'm running the optimized CPU app: milkyway_0.18_sse3_i686-pc-linux-gnu ...for versions 16 and 18. Lately, workunits have been running for 8+ hours (normal) but the progress bar stays at 0% the entire time. Is something wrong or did something change about the tasks to break the progress bar? |

CPU crazy slow
(Message 42495)
Posted 1 Oct 2010 by DJStarfox Post: OK, first WU returned took about 10 hours. That is better than the 20-24 hours it estimated, but that's still double what Paul gets (above).... I have a Q6600, and I downloaded the SSE3 app for Intel & AMD. Is that the best option? |

Posted 30 Sep 2010 by DJStarfox Post: Hi, just joined Milkyway. I only have a CPU, no compatible GPU for any project. CPU is Q6600 2.4GHz. However, other computers do WU in 16 sec what takes mine 20 hours. This is crazy, but is this normal? What can I do? http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/workunit.php?wuid=158614755 |
