New Server
(Message 51820)
Posted 3 Dec 2011 by HassanShebli Post: I know the CPU, but I was asking if the server has dual CPU, or only one CPU ? For MW it is much better to have more CPU power to accomplish more tasks at once and handle the stress efficiently. |

How long will it take to finish the MW project?
(Message 51692)
Posted 14 Nov 2011 by HassanShebli Post: As far as my knowledge, MW main goal is to draw 3d dimensional model of our galaxy. Here is the introduction from the main webpage: Milkyway@Home uses the BOINC platform to harness volunteered computing resources, creating a highly accurate three dimensional model of the Milky Way galaxy using data gathered by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. This project enables research in both astroinformatics and computer science. So I think there should be a progress indicator to acknowledge our progress. |

Posted 13 Nov 2011 by HassanShebli Post: I am wondering what’s left to accomplish our goal and finish this project for good?. What is the finished percentage ? How long do we need to close it ? What is the required hardware power to reach there ? |

Loooong WU
(Message 51659)
Posted 10 Nov 2011 by HassanShebli Post: I agree with you, AMD supported projects are very limited… actually it is only one (Milkyway) others are useless .. . to me at least. I am so frustrated that other scientific projects didn't provide AMD support for their projects yet, and I think it is not that hard. They should do it as the second most important project on the net is MW as all AMD scientific – oriented owners are participating in. So dear Kathryn : If you're interested in MW only so you better buy AMD card with double precision support, and the best bargain is to get 2 6950 which will exceed 6990 but cheaper. This one is my favorite as it has dual fan so it is so quiet : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127588 But if you want other project buy Nvidia, my advice to get 2 570 such as this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127582&Tpk=570 finally: make sure that your board supports the card and have enough power to run your system. |
