I know the CPU, but I was asking if the server has dual CPU, or only one CPU ?

For MW it is much better to have more CPU power to accomplish more tasks at once and handle the stress efficiently.

Is it dual or single CPU?

Good news.

Can you please make a different website for MW so users will be able to logon to follow the progress in case of another disaster? Or at least a facebook account?

Hope you update the database to avoid future MELTDOWN.

Thanks

Good news.

What's the precentage of the finished work out of the total percentage? Any idea

What is that fraction ? 1% ? Less or more ?

As far as my knowledge, MW main goal is to draw 3d dimensional model of our galaxy. Here is the introduction from the main webpage:

Milkyway@Home uses the BOINC platform to harness volunteered computing resources, creating a highly accurate three dimensional model of the Milky Way galaxy using data gathered by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. This project enables research in both astroinformatics and computer science.

So I think there should be a progress indicator to acknowledge our progress.

I am wondering what’s left to accomplish our goal and finish this project for good?.

What is the finished percentage ? How long do we need to close it ?

What is the required hardware power to reach there ?

I agree with you, AMD supported projects are very limited… actually it is only one (Milkyway) others are useless .. . to me at least.

I am so frustrated that other scientific projects didn't provide AMD support for their projects yet, and I think it is not that hard. They should do it as the second most important project on the net is MW as all AMD scientific – oriented owners are participating in.

So dear Kathryn :
If you're interested in MW only so you better buy AMD card with double precision support, and the best bargain is to get 2 6950 which will exceed 6990 but cheaper. This one is my favorite as it has dual fan so it is so quiet :

But if you want other project buy Nvidia, my advice to get 2 570 such as this one:

finally:
make sure that your board supports the card and have enough power to run your system.

I've seen it now.

My advice is to add 6950 card if she can offred it as that will improve the outcome a lot but in MW only.

My present WU has been running 14 hours and is only at 21%. This has not happened before. What's going on?

Are you crunching on cpu or gpu ? If cpu then it is ok. For gpu it depends on your card but usually under 30 minutes max

1#: Supermicro Workstation/Server:
2x Intel Xeon X5690 3.46GHz Hexa-Core, 12 Cores = 24 Cores HyperThreaded
Nvidia Quadro 2000

2# Lenovo Thinkpad W510 Mobile Workstation:
Intel Core i7 X920 2GHz (3.2GHz w/Turbo Boost) Quad-Core, 4 Cores = 8 Cores HyperThreaded
Nvidia Quadro FX 880M

What is the daily outcome of quadro cards? How long does it take for single WU?

I am confused ?

Is it worth it to increase the clock speed or not !!

And how much 100 MHz will make difference in crunching time.
