It run ok it seemed for about a week but now its nothing but computation errors. Alright I'm suspending the project until further notice, like 6 months. I can spend my time helping with something else.

4) Message boards : Number crunching : Experimenting with BOINC setting and what they mean (Message 49103)

I have unattached from the Einstein@Home project and my system chunkiness has stopped. I'll repost this on the Einstein@Home forum.

After a system restore I'm reattaching to projects. My 3 are WCG, MW@home and Einstein@Home. Just today finished reattaching to Einstein. Now my system chunks up a bit when playing games as if things aren't quite getting out of the way well enough.

So I wanted to go over with the community what these BOINC settings mean and to get a better understanding of how they affect me.

On preferences I have:

Allow computing while:

Computer is at work YES

While GPU is at work YES.

Now these are getting out of the way after whatever I put in, say I started using 50% of the system?

Also have told it not to leave suspended tasks in memory.

Where do you find these STDERR logs? I cant find them in the BOINC folder or in 'My Documents'
7) Message boards : Number crunching : Is Anyone Addressing This Constant Computation Error Problem? (Message 49100)
Posted 29 May 2011 by Chris
Post:
I just noticed I now am getting computation errors on MW@Home. Not sure how to post the info or how toget it any more detailed than it shows in messages. Suffices to say at least ten tasks have went belly up that were going through the night. Not a single MW@Home success on the list. Other projects are having no such problem.

Going to withdraw support for a while until this gets ironed out.

So what they mean is the program will not do anything with any of the BOINC projects as they do not keep an actual window open.

Thinking about this, it might not help BOINC directly, but indirectly it may well help. If you are running other programs that use an actual window the program may shift them to unused CPU cores thus freeing up the core that uses BOINC.

It would be nice to have these conveniently labelled(graphics card list) as to which ones are available with AGP or not. My roommate uses BOINC but has an older Motherboared with AGP and an AMD 3100+ in it and would be interested to know which were available for what style without hunting the internet. We could do that but it would be more convenient labelled for those in the future wondering the same thing.

Were there any AGP cards from ATI and/or Nvidia that supported whatever is needed on those cards for MW@Home to be able to use them?

I removed the new version and went back to 6.6.38. It has the option on install to allow all users to control BOINC, something the new version doesn't have.

It's still there, on the same screen that lets you choose rather or not to use the screensaver. Don't use the express install. If you want to use the newer features you'll have to use a newer client anyway. 6.12.22 is the latest and more bug free than any of the 6.10.xx clients IMO.

ok I found it. It wont let me use the old one anyways. :)

I just downloaded this update. I usualy use my PC and BOINC in a non-admin profile for which I do most of my web surfing and such from. Now this new BOINC is bitching and complaining about not being in a non-admin profile and wont let me manage boinc. I wish I had not upgraded.

Can someone give me the skinny on how to fix this as I took a poke in admin mode at the preferences etc but didnt see anything useful and I really don't have time to dance with this.

Thanks.

I hope that also they can get some kind of cool images to use as the their BOINC icon rather than just the big boring 'B'. And some cool images to go by in the BOINC window like the Help Fund Childhood Cancer project does.

Why has this not been done a long time ago?

The main BOINC page still has 6.10 for download so I'll stick with that for now. Seems other versions may be wonky from time to time.

I tried both of your demos and while they work, I don't get it I guess. Maybe shooting for being too complex? Suggestion would be to simplify the graphics representation down to something that will fit entirely in the window. I realize my other suggestion I posted in the wrong thread. But this one is more of the same especially after toying with the cube demo and the other one.

My thoughts are perhaps there should be an option for a way more simplified view of it that still looks cool that passerbyes would stop and want to watch. As it is they are probably not there yet. Just my thoughts. :)
20) Message boards : Number crunching : How are you guys able to run so many diff project at once effectively? (Message 47198)
Posted 9 Apr 2011 by Chris
Post:
Now that the board is back up, just wanted to let you guys know you have me running a bunch of diff projects now. I'm running MW@Home, WCG Help Fight Childhood Cancer and since the project crashed here I tried CFDN. Incredible program but shoved everything else out of the way. As much as climate prediction would be useful helping fight childhood cancer is way more urgent.

So I have suspended MW@Home and CFDN and have Help Fight Childhood Cancer going and Einstein@Home.
