The best advice I can give is to turn panic mode off!

A lot of Boinc projects run out of work from time to time, hey it happens, and for various reasons, but there are ways around the problem. Find a secondary project that you want to crunch for, and set MW preferences to 90% and the secondary project to 10% of processor time.

When MW runs out of work the secondary project automatically cuts in. At all other times you get 90% MW crunching time. Better than no work anywhere at all. I'm sure that Travis will kick the servers as and when he is able to, until then let's give the guys here a break. :-)

but when they both are out of work it is time to panic.

Well, you have to make the best out of this situation, my other 8 backup projects are still there and waiting, all of them very interesting too !!

Just keep on crunching !

Kurt

edit : 7 projects, `cause RieselSieve isn`t with us anymore !!!

Chris, of course you`re right, no project guarantees to always have work.
Regarding my post above, I`m not in Panic Mode at all, the mere coincidence
was worth a smile this morning, though !

Best regards,

Kurt

Hi Cori !

Good idea, I´ll give it a try tomorrow evening.
Right now even coffee won`t help me from falling asleep !

All the best,

I have run into this problem at other projects.....I just shut down boinc, waited a minute, and restarted it.....That usually fixes most Boinc problems....

The extreme measure would be to detach from the project and add it again....

Thank you for your answer !
I`ve tried both methods described above several times, but it doesn`t help.
On the other hand, one of my comps usually gets attached to MilkyWay and I
have work. I was just wondering if Boinc, my computers, or MilkyWay is
responsible.

All the best,

Kurt

Since about 5 o'clock this morning on one of my rigs I'm getting this message: "Communication resumed for 24:00 hours", then counting down. When pressing 'Update' I get "Fetching scheduler list"...and that's it. Master file won't download and nothing else is happening. Got many WUs ready for upload but due to that prob they're stuck.
What I've done already:
- trying another client (6.3.14, 6.3.10, 6.2.15) using the old data and account: no success
- trying stable client 6.2.15 on a fresh installation and new account: no success either...it even won't download the initialization files, just that "24:00 hours" message is apperarin...
- putting the whole BOINC-folder to another rig and trying to get the WUs through from here: same prob again...

Any idea what I could do to get that rig/account usable again ?

I have the same problem on my computers since about 2 weeks.
Hitting the update button doesn`t really help, but then, all of the sudden,
when you don`t expect it, MilkyWay "finds" one of the comps again.....

Would be of great help, if anybody knew what`s going on !!

... A "competition", where you can get the same credits for nothing (here) like everywhere else for real work is not such, it's just a farce.

Is crunching more in less time "nothing"? Don't really think so.
And besides it's not uppercases WUs here... *grin*

Cori, I second your statement !

All the best,

Kurt

That's most likely caused by the servers being overloaded

Thanks for Your answer....Then I`ll just sit it out !!!

Hi all !

Back to Milkyway, using Milksops` opt. app ( Thank You ! )
All went well ( except no new work, of course ), until I got
this message :
02.11.2008 11:01:16|Milkyway@home|Fetching scheduler list
02.11.2008 11:01:21|Milkyway@home|Deferring communication for 1 days 0 hr 0 min 0 sec
02.11.2008 11:01:21|Milkyway@home|Reason: 4 consecutive failures fetching scheduler list

Tried detaching and reattaching - to no avail.
This happened on one of my comps, while my second comp ( same model )
works just fine.

Any hints on this problem ( due to new app ?? ), or will it work out by itself ???

Thanks for any info in advance !!!

All the best

Kurt
