Personally, Ive about had it with this nonsense.
They don't bother to communicate with us what they are doing most of the time.
They don't seem to be willing or able to solve a recurring problem.
Arrogance for the first ,incompetence for the latter.
I would have fired the lot of them by now if they were any of my employees!
Think I'll take my 40 cores and 19 GPU's and go play somewhere I'm respected just a little more.

In fact I'm already gone,lol!

I often wonder what people don't understand about the word

What I find odd is your 4870 is running almost 400 seconds per work unit. My 4850 at 727 Mhz is running right around 200 seconds per unit so not sure what is going on there.

Are you overclocking with CCC?

My 4850 crashes and returns invalid results if I overclock it to 650Mhz using CCC. Incidentally 650Mhz is the maximum CCC will allow.

Overclocking using ATI Tray tools v 1.6.9.1486 I can get a perfectly stable 725mhz overclock no crashes and all results valid.

GPU temp is in the 70 to 75 degree range this is a powercolor 4850 which comes with the arctic cooling Accelero L2 Pro attached which is by no means a huge beast of a cooler like the Acceloro S2, but it is definately better than most stock coolers.

ATI Tray tools also allows reducing voltage to the GPU which can only help if you are having heat issues. Stock voltage on the 4850 is 1.120V mine runs @725MHz downvolted to 1.082 perfectly stable.

Give it a go see what you think.

James

/edit Oh yes and it also allows working fan speed control on my card so you can set the fan speed to whatever you want. /edit

In my experience running a cpu workunit causes the gpu to run slower to the point where you would actually be doing less work for milkyway by running on the cpu and gpu at the same time.

Try timing some gpu units with no load on the cpu and then with load and you will see what I mean. The cpu units do not make up for the loss of gpu performance.

This is with my system of a E7200 O/C to 3.16 and an HD4850 O/C to 725Mhz

Check yours and see if it is the same.

or just get 2 4850's for about 200 bucks and get about 180k per day :)

Or perhaps, as it was Slicker that posted it, the data is for collatz and it is mislabeled and posted in the wrong forum.

I know I'm clutching at straws now, but the mystery remains.......

Interestingly enough when I run a project on the cpu, times for each workunit increase from 223 seconds up to 240 - 250 seconds. Which is a loss of around 7k points per day. Now I don't know of any cpu project that my processor could get more than 7k per day on so I actually lose points by running another project on the cpu. Any body else see this kind of behavior.

Well its up and running doing about 220 to 230 seconds per unit. Now if I could just work out how to run gpu units and optimized cpu units at the same time.

I'm somewhat confused in so far as I thought this project required a double precision gpu. If that is the case how come there are 12,402 active gpus' and only 6,688 double precision ones?

A quick simple question I'm sure has been asked before, but I can't find it looking through the forums.

My son just upgraded his video card and is sending me his old Radeon 4850. Will the project automatically send me the right app or do I need to use app_info etc.

If so which version should I download? I have an Intel E7200 @ 3.16 Ghz and of course the ATI 4850. Running Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit. I'm just confused between the AMD and ATI versions 0.22 and 0.23.

And as a matter of interest what kind of RAC would the 4850 be capable of?

Thanks for your time.

James

Our next step is to get the server code upgraded so we can recognize ATI GPUs and also test out the new BOINC credit scheme. I'm hoping that'll happen tomorrow

and what does this mean?

Errr surely a raid array would just have a copy of the crashed database.

Raid arrays are great if a disk stops working, but useless is the data is corrupted

If I remember correctly it was brownian motion in a teacup that allowed the heart of gold to be produced in the first place. That and moving all the molecules in the hostesses undergarments simultaneously 3 feet to the left.
