I think I found the problem. Razer installed a mining program (to earn credits for Razer gear) on my machine. It's supposed to crunch with the GPU. I DISABLED it, but it still must've been affecting the GPU because my stats kept dropping until I UNINSTALLED it. My stats are climbing again!

8 cores free. On this machine I only crunch with the GPU. I was averaging between 150 to 160k/day.

I have not made any configuration changes, and tasks are running. AMD Wattman shows the GPU is fully utilized and when I suspend the project, it's not. Any ideas why my host stats have bee dropping steadily since 1/16?

It's an RX480!
7) Message boards : Number crunching : WU restart every 20% (Message 65989)

Post:
Ah, this makes sense. I just looked a little closer and the timer counts up appropriately, but the countdown changes according to the restarts. A bit confusing.

My RX 480 burns through these things at 1:32 each. By contrast my HD 7770 on another machine does them in 5:47 each.

Thanks.

Post:
I start a WU and it will eventually run to completion, but only after it runs to 20%, restarts, runs to 40%, restarts, runs to 60%, restarts, runs to 80%, restarts, then finally runs to 100% and completes. See log below for an example WU. It's exactly 20.00%, 40.00%, etc too. Thought's? It's slowing me down dramatically.

Well after my computer sitting idle for about 6 months, I just upgraded it to an FX-8350 running factory clocks and my old GPU. I used to be 1.5 min per WU, now I'm at 23s for every Modified Fit WU. I used to utilize more of my GPU though (97%). Now with a much better CPU I'm only using about 35% of my GPU, max. Strange. But hey, I'm back to crunching away, so I'm happy. :-)

AMD FX-8350 (4GHz) CPU

Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 6950 2GB OC Edition @820/1250

My specs are in my signature. I'm running factory clocks using Slackware64 14.1. As it says in the subject, I can only crunch with my GPU for 3 minutes before it crashes X. It will freeze my display. CPU crunching will apparently continue, however GPU will not. I have the latest stable 14.9 Catalyst driver and AMD APP installed. Obviously GPU crunching is working, slightly. I mean everything is in place and detected. It just doesn't have any endurance. CPU crunching is multi-week stable. What's going on? I like to game on Steam too, so I need the latest optimized drivers for that stuff.

Thoughts?

The ONLY way I've ever seen a 6900 series gpu run is with the 13.2 version of the drivers, you may just be out of luck here. It is a project thing, NOT on your end.

Project or Driver?

Sorry I don't understand the question.

Is it because the project hasn't updated code or is it because the driver somehow lost support/functionality that it used to have? Basically who should I complain to? Back with 13.2 drivers, as you stated. I was crunching like crazy. turning out a wU every 1.5 minutes. Ever since then, my GPU has been idle and I haven't been able to help further the project.

I just upgraded from Slackware64 14.0 to Slackware64 14.1. I installed the 13.11 Beta 6 driver (was working fine before). So what did I forget to do?

Thanks.

Anyway.... No I only ever had it try one WU at a time for Seti on the GPU. Out of the few computers I have crunching, I have 1x 4 threads of Seti, 1x 2 threads of seti, 1x 1 thread of seti, 1x 4 threads seti and GPU Primgrid (SP), 1x 2 threads seti and GPU milkyway (DP). (I also have an old K62-400 that runs on WU of Seti every 358 hours.)

So with that 'much' computing power dedicated to Seti@home, I don't feel so bad dedicating my GPU to Milkway.... as long as they complete without errors.

My one computer is a Dual-CPU Xeon but the mobo only has PCI of assorted flavors and PCI-E x8 on it. Right now it has a Voodoo 3 200PCI in it because it's way better than the RAGE/XL integrated, but I thought about picking up a PCI-E 1x 5450 to slap in there so it can crunch with the GPU. Maybe on Primegrid or something.

Since I adjusted:

MilkyWay@Home: no

I have been seeing a much higher success rate.

I just noticed this error in the logs:

Thu 07 Nov 2013 06:31:58 PM EST | Milkyway@Home | Message from server: Catalyst driver version is not OK for CAL application with this GPU

I'm using 13.11 Beta 6 for Linux. About to upgrade to 13.11 beta 8 later today. Thoughts?

Right now it's running .945 CPUs + 1 GPU (@ 95% usage). (That's a CPU clocked at 3.504GHz/core and 820MHz GPU Clock) Seti@Home uses the remaining of Both. (I actually tried running Seti@home on my GPU and it was a waste of time. Only used <20% of my GPU)

By the way, You do know what killed the Pilsbury Doughboy right?

So I adjusted this setting to "no" hoping to pick them off before I get them. Correct?

MilkyWay@Home: no
MilkyWay@Home N-Body Simulation: yes
Milkyway@Home Separation: yes
Milkyway@Home Separation (Modified Fit): yes

Milkyway@Home Separation (Modified Fit) v1.28 (opencl_amd_ati) tasks are working fine. I only crunch Milkyway@home on my GPU. The CPU does Seti@home.

Thanks.

I don't believe I can roll my drivers back that far, however if you make any changes I will continue to try them. I've been crunching on Primegrid with this GPU in the meantime to bring my numbers up there. I have a 5450 in a laptop that crunches away on primegrid since it's about the only project it can handle but it takes 80 hours/WU where this little HD6950 takes 45 minutes/WU.

Ouch. That's like from a long like time ago. Besides that. I'm not even running it on a XP or even windows platform for that matter. I run it on Linux x64. ;-)
