Yep, batch it seems, since there's another with a very similar name: https://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/workunit.php?wuid=1003646243

So it seems to be true? Sure, very small sample, but if there is a pattern of occasional invalids in WUs that were being processed at the time of reboot, the next question is what's the difference between those that do work and those that don't.

On the other hand, just saw a different kind of error. Error 13, unknown code, invalid data. Just the odd one out or a sign of another bad batch?

And here's one more: https://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/result.php?resultid=1015878946

They all seem to be tasks that were running when I rebooted though. Only a small number of them, obviously, since 16 are running at once, but it seems a common thread. And while looking at others' results on 1.90, where you can see when work was resumed, I saw invalids from other users that were also for WUs that continued after reboots (at least as far as I can tell from the 1.90 result output).
Wonder if there's a hiccup that may cause the odd issue when a WU resumes.
And, if so, would explain why I've been getting them lately, since I normally only reboot for Windows updates, but over the past couple of weeks I've been looking into something and rebooted several times.
But that'd also mean that those who turn their computer off every day would get rather regular invalids, at least a few per week, maybe several. Of course, that may well be the case, I wouldn't know, and doubt that too many users really check.

No tweaking software installed. RAM's at 5200, yep, it's this one https://www.kingston.com/en/memory/search?partid=KF552C36BBEK2-64 EXPO profile enabled to run at those stated parameters, no manual tweaks to it.

Left Libre Hardware Monitor running for several hours (and had it set fans to 80% during that time), everything looks rock stable, looking at min and max values:

Possibly under? Boost off, TDP down to 45W from BIOS, though what I see reported is constant 4200 MHz on all cores in full use, which is the regular maximum speed of the 8700G. But that's how I set it since I got it in November.

Your errors are the disk limit exceeded ones that have been happening for a while. Nothing wrong on your part or with your computer.

Did notice more tasks with long running times recently, and some estimates that were longer than I've ever seen before. I mean, always had some tasks running for over a day, and the odd one going around 2 days, but now they seem to make up more of the total and I've even seen estimates above 3 days, though I don't know long long those actually took.

What's quite unpleasant though is when you have such tasks caught in the recent mixup, you complete them but then they got canceled and can't be validated, so you end up with days and days of lost CPU time. Have 3 pages of supposed invalids like that now, most with long running times, on top of the occasional disk limit exceeded errors that comes after a long processing time instead of early on (screenshot in case they get cleared).

All right, but then this was a weird one: https://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/workunit.php?wuid=1001717590 I got that error, after almost 17 hours of processing, but the wingmen didn't. Maybe it was right at the limit?

Then again, seem to also have two validate errors https://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/workunit.php?wuid=1001634646 and https://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/workunit.php?wuid=1000463155 2nd one being older, reported on March 12, and the first wingman also had it invalidated before the next ones did match each other. Wonder if it means there's an issue somewhere for me.

And my RAC did tank lately, was at some 22k until a month ago. And a few invalid or error WUs wouldn't make that big of an impact.

Just checked and saw 8 tasks with errors in the past few days, and they errored out for all wingmen too, so guess that there are a bunch of bad work units in the current batch?

None bar the one included in Win 10 at the moment, didn't switch the AV license from the old computer yet.

Found an old thread on SETI@home talking about it, https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=73704
What I found most relevant after a quick skim of the first page, quoted from another thread, is "One of the last things an app does before exiting is write an empty "finish file", and that error indicates the app didn't exit within ten seconds after writing that file. I think the error was likely caused by shutting BOINC down after the file was written but before the app had gotten to its usual exit" In my case it wasn't quitting or crashing BOINC, but likely the task getting suspended at such an... inopportune time when I unsuspended Asteroids@home to allow some remaining tasks to complete (since I want to switch back fully to MW@h now that I can run it again) and it switched straight to those since the deadline is approaching.
That is assuming that the issue wasn't fixed in the 11 years since those posts...

And that "The operating system cannot run ..." is the argument for system error 194 I see, https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/debug/system-error-codes--0-499-

I just had two tasks error out

https://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/result.php?resultid=998036013
That error 194, if it follows standard Windows error codes, supposedly means "iterated data exceeds 64k", and I had one more like that some days ago on Asteroids@home.
This is a new computer and I do have some concerns about it, so any idea what that's about? It seems to indicate a problem with the instructions, not with the processing, but I can't find specifics about it and I never saw anything of the sort on the old one, on any project that I ran on it.

And in progress tasks weren't aborted by server, so people who still have some will be running them and then send them into the void I guess...
I wonder if the server will take them? If it's just the generator off, maybe it will. Otherwise we might have people with hundreds of completed tasks being repeatedly refused by the server.

I meant to try and post what happened, let one start, but then decided I didn't want it left dangling somewhere, and the way this was done was too... disrespectful to the users to bother, so just aborted all.

Are you talking about the credits for Nbody or Seperation? I got massive credits for seperation, but that's because I had old DP cards.

How did you switch to Asteroids? They only do CPU work (and Nvidia, but no faster than a CPU so pointless).

Separation. Only doing CPU work, and was looking for something to switch to that still worked on 32-bit Win 7 and used as little RAM as possible.
MW does go crazy with the credits, shows when you compare. I mean, 11M for 2 years here vs. 7.5M for 21 years on SETI. Granted, slower computers in the past, but still, and last 6 years of SETI were on this same one.

So I gather it wasn't actually turned off today? And no word about it either...
EIther way, I switched to Asteroids@home, suspending the existing MW WUs earlier today. Wonder if at least they'll be aborted by server when it will be shut down, or they'll be left dangling until users either abort all remaining ones themselves or crunch them for nothing...

As for Asteroids, nice RAM use, some 7.5 Mb / WU. But sure shows how much MW was inflating credits, Asteroids WUs seem to take 25% longer and award 4-5 times less. Weird estimated computation size though, 33 times more than for MW, definitely can't be right.

Yes, we will be turning the entire Separation application off tomorrow. We aren't going to turn off the Wu generator and then let WUs trickle back in for a couple weeks, because we aren't going to use those results for anything.

That's... really messed up. On top of the awfully short shutdown notice, send people work and then not even allow it to be reported back?

You'd be surprised what Windows 7 will run on. And what about a newer windows with the interface returned to the good old 7? That's what I do. I get the benefits of the new Windows without the screwed up interface.

P.S. you misspelt your name, it's "Cavalry" :-)

The interface is the one manageable thing, forced updates is the main problem, system possibly rebooting on its own, settings that may change without your consent, quick end of support without applying major updates that almost entail to a new version, all the additional things that can be running, resource use... Fail to see any benefits that'd hold a candle to the mountain of downsides.

Misspelled it back in the '90s when I first got on line, still use that e-mail, and kept it like that ever since. More likely to be free too.
