CUDA Code online
(Message 23018)
Posted 22 May 2009 by Seejay Post: Reading what Travis has posted here, it would seem that the "Official" GPU app. will be CUDA, with continuing support for the existing ATI app. and that the CPU apps. will carry on as now, with the only difference being that there should always be work for the original CPU project, as the WUs for GPU will be generated and handled on their own under the MW@Home_GPU banner. Please correct me if I'm wrong! :) |

Servers down for maintenance or what?
(Message 22649)
Posted 18 May 2009 by Seejay Post: Well I had nothing to do with this one. I hope travis wasnt working on something. I tried to start up everything but the AV wouldn't start back up. So I think Travis needs to take a look at it because the only thing I could think of is that he was doing something. Thanks for answering, Dave!! At least we know it wasn't your fault!! ;-) |

Jeez Dave!! It's not even summer and you're already on summer break? How long was your last semester - 10 minutes? LOL Just kidding! Listen, can't you get ole Travis there to give us all an update on the state of play, what with you being close to him, and all? I mean geographically close, that is - just a quick disclaimer there to avoid any misunderstanding!! Cheers Chris ;^). |

GPU vs CPU Tasks
(Message 22068)
Posted 12 May 2009 by Seejay Post: And again ... still nothing has been changed on my end and all of a sudden I'm back to the standard "No Work Available" messages ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Looks like someone's playing with the server. Maybe Travis was trying out the CUDA app.?? It would be nice to have an update on the state of play. Last "News" item is dated April 11th. on this site, and there are those famous words "Almost there.." on the GPU site. Dave? Travis? Are you there? |

never getting more than one task
(Message 20616)
Posted 26 Apr 2009 by Seejay Post: Having all sorts of problems getting work today (CPU). No work for the last 3 hours, even though "Server Status" says otherwise. I therefore thought I'd try a little experiment, y'know, as one does after 3 hours of button hitting!! I detached from the project - usually works with other projects. The darn server wouldn't even give me the necessary 1 second of work to begin the project D/L. After fiddling around with a few preferences for about an hour, just to give the server something to do, seeing that all the work that is apparently available gets hoovered up by certain individuals, or the scheduler's not working, or whatever, the great and glorious server gave me my 1 second of work, then grudgingly gave me 2 work units on my quad, which have now finished. My comp is hence idle once more. I guess I'll do some Primegrid or something, until some work arrives - bit of a pain though.... |

Deleted Accounts
(Message 19075)
Posted 16 Apr 2009 by Seejay Post: Dave: I'm forwarding this on behalf of Francis Butts, whose account got the chop. Francis Butts wrote: I did get my computer ID number for the project since sending my e-mail to Dave. his CPID is 3617b699c88dc109cfad443c0168912a, and is the only cruncher for "Cayman Islands", which has also disappeared. Is this enough info to get things rolling? Maybe his ID N° is 1055?? Cheers, Chris |

Posted 14 Apr 2009 by Seejay Post: Nice one Dave. A project forum, as I see it, is to discuss, in a sensible and positive way, the aspects and issues of the project, not to resort to swearing at each other over who's got more creds.... OK, problems are there to be solved; but what's the point of calling names....discussion, pure and simple civil discussion is the way to work around problems - and there's always space for light-heartedness. Thanks again Dave - good move. |

Posted 10 Mar 2009 by Seejay Post: Here we go again: Came in from work... both CPU boxes idle - I don't have an ATI card ;^). Everything's been running smoothly since the end of Feb., so what's changed? IMO, as previously stated, the feeder can't keep the scheduler queue sufficiently fed!! The number of GPUs is increasing exponentially, so the scheduler queue must be enlarged. Not much good for the crunchers, or the project, if we're all waiting for work that's there, but cannot be had! |

Posted 2 Mar 2009 by Seejay Post: Been receiving a nice constant stream of work for 2 days now, without and idle boxes or UPDATE button stabbing to worry about!! This, IMO, is due to the increase in WU length.....knock-on effect: gives the scheduler queue time to reach FULL, instead of emptying and then refilling hiccup style from the feeder as Travis previously mentioned ( not in those exact words, but the meaning's the same ). Also keeping the 6xCPU WU limit in place seems to have contributed to containing the constant drain from the GPU clients... All in all, if the server can carry on with hundreds of thousands of HTTP requests per day, then the prob. seems to be fixed. BTW, Travis, how are the results from the new stripes (24, 25, and 26) looking? |

Just got home from a local Trattoria and found both my boxes idle again....both with 22 and 6 WUs respectively finished and waiting to upload....comms deferred for another hour on both boxes...it can't be the BOINC Manager, unless v.6.4.6(I managed to get a stable copy of this version thanks to Cori!!) contains the same problems as v.6.4.5... Maybe MW doesn't like my ISP, I certainly don't!! ;^). |

Looks like following our advice works sometimes, eh Travis? ;^). Things are running much smoother now that : gomeyer wrote: or perhaps that small feeder cache needs to be increased a bit if possible? and I wrote: Those of us that are running CPU apps. must each be sending hundreds of requests to the server every day, what with this cache limit of 12WUs x Core at any one time. Might this not get the scheduler a bit racked-off, and therefore lengthens its request times after X number of consecutive HTTP requests? Thanks for listening!! |

Posted 26 Feb 2009 by Seejay Post: Today was the first time I saw all my 4 puters at home running idle. *eek* AGAIN!! Got home from work, both boxes idle - Server Status page says there's work to be had, but I keep hitting "Update" till nothing happens - download a batch of PG PSP sieve, as they're D/Ling - BOOM!! - 28 WUs from MW - then another 24 for the quad and 6+6 for my old boat anchor. This is getting a little tiresome. I aborted the PG WUs and my boxes are back doing their thing. Are the GPU clients having the same problems? |
