Collatz Conjecture project in the last 12 months went down couple hours only on few ocasions...

MW@Home went down several ocasions for several hours or in most of the times for several days...
Maybe MW@H should ask them for some tips.

4770 also has DP support...

If you have only one card without DP, milkyway will detect and warn you that your board doesn't have necessary support. As you had already a board with DP support and attached another one without, probably server recognize DP support form the 4850 and wasn't able to sort the 6790 out, sending and trying to start jobs for your second board aswell...

Quantify progress achieved so far in relation to prove the existence of Dark Matter... Good question...

Don't think that it has a progress bar indicator for that, since we're trying to prove existence of dark matter thru MW@Home project...

Another good example is Einstein@Home project (search for pulsars), there's no way to know exactly how many are out there, hence, no indication or progress bar, but that doesn't keep us from continue searching...

I'd say we've a long way ahead of us ^^

Correct me if i'm wrong...

Hi DJ,

Try to download the "AMD Catalystâ„¢ Accelerated Parallel Processing (APP) Technology Edition" driver... If you are using Vista/7 64bits, here's the link for the driver: AMD Catalystâ„¢ Accelerated Parallel Processing (APP) Technology Edition
If you're using other OS, here's the page to go to select annother driver version: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/previous/10/Pages/radeon.aspx?os=Windows%20Vista%20-%2064-Bit%20Edition&rev=10.11

Make sure to uninstall your old driver and restart the computer, then, after restarting install the downloaded driver, also, after installing the new driver it doesn't require you to restart, but do it anyway...
With the old driver removed and new driver installed correctly, you should have now support of APP & OpenCL installed correctly.

If that doesn't work, you may look into the cc_config.xml-file, it contained the line:
<no_gpus>1</no_gpus>
which means that no GPU should be used (even if one was present) and thus reported that no GPU was found. If so, change that line to:
<no_gpus>0</no_gpus>
and the GPU will be detected.

Here are the config options: (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Client_configuration)

If you don't have a cc_config.xml - file you can create one using notepad or a similar txt-editor and just put that one line in. You have to be careful to put in all the correct spaces ... look at the example below

<cc_config>
<options>
<no_gpus>0</no_gpus>
</options>
</cc_config>

Shut down BOINC-manager and restart it after the cc_config.xml-file is edited/created or deleted.

I hope this helps!
Best Regards,

Hi TJ,

I was very surprised aswell with the 4770 performance, earlier this year i bought a Sapphire Radeon 5770 VaporX and, of course i was very excited to start crunching... 5770 don't have DP (learned after i bought it, i just assumed it has DP as it was a fairly good card when i bought it)... As high-end cards are pretty expensive here, i was towards a Nvidia GTX 460, aprox R$ 540,00 (US$ 306,00), but meanwhile i was able to get 2x Radeon HD 4770's to test before buy (bought for R$ 210,00 each (US$ 119,00)). Also, a friend of mine had a GTX 460 that i was able to compare results with, the results where like 1/3 faster with the GTX.

Both HD 4770's in Crossfire mode performed way better then a single 4890 or GTX 460, and they where cheaper aswell. When we where doing the benchmarks, i didn't expect that 2x 4770 would perform better then a 4890 or a GTX 460, but they did, check out the results we've obtained:

Radeon HD 4890 (Low & High):

NVidia GTX 460 (Low & High)

2x Radeon HD 4770 (Low & High)

I've also captured a SS of my BOINC and made a short video crunching couple MW wu's to show the performance of the 4770's:

BOINC SS (1Mb)
BOINC Crunching Video (210Mb)

Best Regards :-)

For those who are planning on buy a GPU or upgrade the old one, i'm starting this thread as a reference to help choosing the new toy(s) because when i bought mine, i didn't found good information to make a choice. Hope it helps. ^^

Index your CPU and GPU and reported BOINC remaining total time...

- Phenom II X4 965BE @ 3.4Ghz, 2 XFX Radeon HD 4770

PS_Preparation_10_3s: 00:05:28s

hm? why? how do you mean that? I have dnetc as backup backup backup emergency energywasting project when SETI Backup offers no Astropulse on the MW Machine. Normaly over BOINC Manager..

You can't just attach to DNETC and Moo Wrapper via BOINC manager.

About DNETC, yes, you can attach to BOINC Manager because i was testing it last couple days and i had it attached to BOINC Manager, tho, i didn't found much information about what exactly i was processing, so i kinda abandoned for now DNETC, about Moo Wrapper i have no info how it can or cannot be attached to BOINC Manager. So far, i'm crunching PrimeGRID as backup project for MW@Home...
