Any update on the server maintenance or when the servers processes will be up?

buying a Win10 license for old 2 core laptop is waste of money. Consider linux mint xfce. It has a windows like desktop, xfce is lighter weight than other linux desktop distros and with a 2 core system you need lightweight. And it's free.

How about starting new thread under the Number Crunching section to discuss all this riveting banter? Let's leave all the News threads for the project admins to post their info so it doesn't get lost in off topic discussions. Don't reply. Just move it to a different thread not in the News section.

12 volts won't give you an electrical shock but it can melt wires and start a fire if circuit shorted or overloaded. connectors are often the weak link. if they aren't making good contact, they can heat up, melt and/or burn. be careful
6) Message boards : Number crunching : One WU using only 16 threads. (Message 75748)

Shows it only using 16 threads. I have a dual processor server that I am running boinc on. It has 8 cores/16 threads per processor. Why doesn't it use all 32 threads?

Are you using an app_config.xml to limit the number of concurrent WUs to 1 or have your boinc preferences set to use less than 100% of the cores?

Looks like the N-body application is unaware of the second cpu. I know other projects run all cores on dual socket hosts like the Universe project. So it isn't a problem with BOINC. Need to have one of the Einstein N-body devs answer your question.

Are you saying universe has an multi-threaded app or just it will use all threads on a multi CPU system with 1 thread per WU?

Do you need the Separation WU in progess or should we just abort them and do other work?

Isn't app_info.xml meant for anonymous platform mechanism setups? If it can be used in the standard setup, wouldn't you have to update the app_info.xml when the project updates its apps or if your system changes?

Yes, if the project updates their app, the app_info.xml will need to be updated. Just offering an option to run just the separation GPU WUs and n-body CPU WUs on the same client without getting separation CPU WUs

I think you should bring every single one of your cpu cores here RIGHT NOW to help clear them out!!
I'd love to but the big CPUs have got GPUs running Separation. If I try to get Nbody for those CPUs, the server gives me CPU seperations! Which are tremendously slow compared to GPUs and utterly pointless. I really don't understand why we don't have more options in the server preferences. Einstein manages.

Something is making the whole server sluggish, it's taking forever just to post this message, not sure what's changed.

Although I do notice the number of seperations waiting to go out is 30000 instead of the usual 10000. Don't tell me we're going to get a huge mass of those to clear too (although that should be easier as we can do them on GPUs).

Just keep aborting the Separation units, that's probably why people are on the 4th go round with them

Oh and yes it's really easy to add choices to the Server code, you just have to know how

If anyone wishes to run just the GPU separation WUs and n-body on their CPUs, send me the contents of your client_state.xml in a PM. I'll create a an app_info.xml that will make it work. I have a version already for nvidia GPUs on linux but not Windows. I need the info from the client_state.xml to see what the program filenames and other info. Maybe the app_info.xml files are already available in another forum thread. Don't know

No admin has the time to intentionally delete WUs of specific users. And Max_Pirx need not worry. He simply needs to look at his stats at one of the stats sites, like BOINCStats, and see he is indeed earning cobblestones for this project.

So, who cares about RAC?
We are here to crunch for science!

Exactly, for science, not just because I fancy wasting my money and resources. But where is the science output from the completed tasks in the last 3-4 weeks?
We are achieving results, they are being received at milkyway (sooner or later) and you will get credits.

According to the server stats, nearly 4 million tasks got validated recently (at least they disappeared from the validation pending stock), but did not materialize as valid tasks with credit... where are they?

I've been getting credit. May your completed WUs are still in the validation queue

Other GPU projects include:
Einstein@home
Moo! Wrapper
SRBase (TF app)
MLC@home (nvidia only)
NumberFields@home (nvidia only)
Amicable Numbers (uses around 10GB main system RAM per WU)
Collatz (if you like big credit)

As for CPU projects, take your pick. To find an active project you can go to BoincStats and look to see if there is currently credit being earned on the project

I mis-read your original post.

My suggestion is if you have multiple GPUs in the computer and want boinc to never use one of them.

If you want computer A to only get CPU work and computer B to get CPU and GPU or just GPU, then wb8ili's suggestion is the correct way to do it.

You can use the ignore_gpu tag in the cc_config.xml to tell the boinc client to ignore any GPU.
Use <ignore_nvidia_dev> for nvidia GPUs
Use <ignore_ati_dev> for AMD GPUs.
Use <ignore_intel_dev> for intel GPUs.
Look in stdoutdae.txt for the messages when the boinc client starts and it will show the GPU info and GPU number.
<cc_config>
<options>
<ignore_nvidia_dev>1</ignore_nvidia_dev>
</options>
</cc_config>

After you make the changes, you must restart the boinc client

I just realized why task info is reporting 2 CL devices. I also have a GTX 1050 Ti installed just to use for video output. The BOINC client is configured to ignore it but the milkyway still knows it's there. It doesn't use it but it sees it. I forget it's there.

For the engineering sample CPUs, search for Xeon V4 ES. Then you can filter the search results for the number of cores you want. Identify the QS code specification code like QH2N, QHV7, etc. Then research the ES spec on other forums and see if any is using it and anything they report about it, good or bad. I some 14 core QHV7s that haven't given any problems. Again, they don't work in all mobos. I use Supermicro X10DAL-i mobos on a few systems. Look for a seller that lists the compatible mobos
