Whatever you did Travis it allows me to get work.

Tried Crunch3r's idea and it didn't work for me.

Changed the XML code as directed, restart Boinc and when I tell it to contact the MW server it goes to fetch the scheduler list and then resets to 24 hour delay.

Looking back at the edited XML file it has gone back to what it was before I changed it.

Using 6.10.18 and 6.10.19, no problems getting work everytime boinc reports finished tasks automatically or manually.

The problem is with machines that lost contact with MW enough times during yesterday's outage to cause BOINC to recheck the master file. One of my machines is fine, because it didn't timeout yesterday. All of the rest got into the "Fetching" state, and cannot get out because the <scheduler> </scheduler> information does not appear to be in the new project page.

So any suggestion for getting out of the fetching state? One user has already tried detach/attach and said it did not help them.

Is it any better yet?

Not for me, still stuck at fetching scheduler list.

Sorry. No better for me neither.

Having read the provided Boinc page, when I try to connect all I get is:

24/06/2010 8:39:39 PM|Milkyway@home|Fetching scheduler list

Nothing else. Then after a few seconds, it tells me that communication is deferred for 24 hours (this is in the Projects view of Boinc manager).

So I don't actually get any error message at all.

Boinc keeps saying "Fetching Scheduler List", and then reschedules for 24 hours later.

Please help.

I am getting that too. Been happening for nearly a day now. Had to switch my computer over to another project as it ran out last night. I have tried shutting Boinc down and restarting but that doesn't make a difference. Don't really want to detach/attach as that loses the work I have already done.

Anyone have any ideas?

Why is anybody even Posting about this when there was a Fix Posted in this Thread on the 14'th for the Progression Bar, install the App 0.22 Fix > http://www.arkayn.us/milkyway/index.html and be amazed at how good the Progression Bar works or don't install it and keep whining about it, it's your choice ... :P

Unless I am mistaken the updated versions fix the progress bar problem in the ATI based apps (eg GPU). However, units being crunched on CPU's are also suffering from this problem.

To the best of my knowledge the 0.19 SSSE3 opt app has not been updated (in fact there does not even appear to be a version 0.20 for SSSE3). Plus the site you are linking to does not have a SSSE3 Win 32bit opt app for CPU's. Furthermore if you look at the following post you will see that the update there is specifically for ATI GPU's.

That's why there is still 'whining' here. Not everyone has an update available to them.

I think MW units running on a CPU need around 10 - 15MB of RAM per unit in memory. At least that is the case on my machines. Machine 124294 has 16 CPU's so you need 16 x 10 - 15MB, which is 160 - 240MB minimum.

I also notice all of your failed units are part of the de_11_x, d_12_x, d_13_x or d_14_x runs. There is an issue with these units not correctly having their progress bar updated in the Boinc manager, but other than that they seem to process fine.

I assume you are running the standard MW app and not an optimised app (this is based on the output of your tasks)?

And here I thought we were supposed to be in it for the science. While having fun along the way.

This happened at Seti several years back. It may still be happening but I have not checked the forums (nor participated on them for about 2 years now). In the end all it does is shift the longer units onto others making it harder for us to get our share of the shorts that statistics dictate we should and causes some units to error out and never get done if they are aborted by enough hosts.

And it seems everyone here has a higher RAC then me. I can never keep up...

Got a handful of shorter ones overnight.

For example: de_14_2s_const_3_2276048_1267832764

Only took about 40 to 50 minutes instead of the normal 4 - 4 1/2 hours on my CPU.
They pay good too. But they seem to be in the minority.

Thank you very much, but I repeat my question with fewer errors ..

My computer courses on the CPU: astronomy_0.19_SSSE3.exe (win_0.19_SSSE3) and I wonder if the version astronomy_0.20_SSE3.exe (win_0.20_Win32_SSE3) calculate more quickly.

There is no version optimized for my GPU: Intel (R) Graphics Media Accelerator 3100 P35/G33/G31 Express Chipset
driver: igxprd32.dll version 6.14.10.5029
Clok GPU: 400MHz

Following your reply I do not know if it is good to do with 0.20b .....

Thank you very much in advance for your answers ...

Check the highlights. You are describing two different opt apps. One uses SSSE3 instructions, while the other only uses SSE3 instructions. If what you have typed is correct then the SSSE3 app is probably faster then the SSE3 app (regardless of the fact that the SSE3 is revision 0.20 and the SSSE3 is revision 0.19). At least this is the experience I have.

As for GPU, opt. apps are for selected Nvidia and ATI cards. You are using an inbuilt graphics system (as displayed by the line: Intel (R) Graphics Media Accelerator).

Hope this helps.

I hope that you feel better soon Travis. I hope its not that Darn swine thing. Its getting the folks around here kind of standoffish.

I think a lot of people are freaking out over the swine flu. Interestingly I may have had it just under a month ago. Housemate got sick saw doctor who said it was probably the flu and a good chance it was swine. However, no test was done so we don't know. About 5 to 7 days later I start feeling like c*** and come down sick (on a Friday of course). Get to the doc on Monday and yep, I probably got 'swined'. But testing was not necessary as I was on the path to recovery.

The worst part was the coughing. It didn't want to go away and was around for nearly two weeks.

If I tried to run the loads you guys have and would probably blow out the box for the unit (or the whole complex).

I run two laptops at home (usually nights and weekends, during the day they are at the uni) and two C2D systems full time at uni. The share of the electricity bill that my wife and I pay is around $110 - $120AUD for 3 months. Of course that is going to go up by around 20% because of the rise in the billing rate.

And there is not much more we can do to cut usage (unless we don't need lights, fridge, stove, washing machine etc)...

So once MW_GPU is up and running good, my CPU's should be able to get a steady supply supply of work at MW_CPU and I can finally try to reach 1 million credits?

And I will not need to babysit the CPU's?

Sounds good to me. But I think that is still a little bit off though...

Well yes it must be some kinda program hammering the server for units reporting they don't have any but since these cards finish them in like 12 seconds or so they must get a huge amount.
The only way to stop them is to release a new application which probably will happen when the new gpu app gets released, then it will take some time before the ati cards

I have been waiting for the GPU app to help here, but news seems to be dry. My systems (all CPU based, no money for expensive video cards) can't get enough units and can go for days without getting anything. For now I have shifted my resources over to Rosetta. Hopefully when the current demand load issue is resolved then I can come back and finish my task of reaching 1 million here.

I got me a 4870 while I was at the computer shop getting my 4850 back.

Now I have 2 starving beasts to feed. No matter how hard I pound the feeder it's not giving me anything! ;)

How are the top users getting so much work?!

Some probably have script files that request work every x secs/mins, regardless of whether they get any or not.
