Is this what you are talking about? 4 running, 2 actually computing?

EDIT: I'm using BOINC 6.4.7, 8.12 drivers, and a 3850 ATI card.
43) Message boards : Number crunching : Travis: Please set a minimum update interval (Message 17702)

Either way, setting update limits will not increase the amount of available work.
--<snip>--

You're not paying attention.

The problem is not with work unit creation. See (once again) Server Status. The work is there. Even if the status page has a problem, as Holger suggested, I don't see it at zero. It seems to hover between 600-1000. So the work is available.

The problem is with work distribution. It's just not getting distributed efficiently.

So what's wrong with giving this proposal a try? Those of you who keep saying it won't work, without really knowing, are like a bunch of academics sitting around arguing about whether it's raining instead of doing a simple experiment by going outside to see.

Hammering and spamming a server is not a good thing. BOINC has recognized this, and has provided an option to prevent it via a minimum interval. There is work: Server Status. Let's try giving the server some headroom to get the work distributed. If I'm right, the graphs will come up. If I'm wrong, Travis can turn it off.

At least we'll know if it's raining. ;-)

Also, I agree with Patrick: until many other projects also support GPU, the GPU users will continue to swarm to MW and any "fix" will not help for long.

But help is help. And a minimum update interval will help. It deserves a test.

And when I just checked the status page, the data was 3 minuts old...I think it updates every 10 minutes or so, and in that time there could be 100+ requests for those 607 WUs...so they all would be gone...don't forget, the status page is only a snapshot of the server 'at that time'.

what version would be right for a asus a8n sli-prem(amd cpu) and a 9800gtx with latest patch

Ummmm....ATI cards only here...no nVidia....

Everyone must remeber, since BOINC doesn't 'oficially' support the ATI cards, splitting the project is the only way to do it. If the BOINC manager recogized the ATI cards, this whole point would be moot. If pressure is to be applied anywhere, it should be on the BOINC devs, to support the alternate GPU computing that is being done here.

Yep as far as I can tell this is the right room for an argument.

No it's not!!

But that's not an argument...you're just disagreeing with me...

Hopefully it's just a selection in Milkyway Preferences. Be even better if the same machine could do both CPU and GPU.

Like they did on SETI with the CUDA apps, right?

Good idea...

I wonder what would happen if the per core limit was dropped from 5k a day to someplace around 500..an i7 would still get 4k WU per day, at an average of 25cr/WU, 100k a day, Q6600 about 50k a day...(with using s GPU)

Seems fair to me...

Might as well just put the speed limit back in place if these sorts of policies are implemented.

OK, maybe 500 is a bit low...1k per core would get you about 200k credit per day on an i7, or any 8 CPU box. UL1 is doing 193k RAC with the top host. That should keep his PC fed...

Went from 5h32m to 5h5m...slight improvement, but this is on a 1gHz G4, so it is WAAAYYY slow anyway...

I have downloaded the new app and will install when I get done with the current WU. I am currently doing them in 5h32m and 3h40m, depending on the stripe. ANY improvement in crunch times will be appreciated...

Thanks for the app...

Well... Please make your complains here...

I think Logan hates us :(

*edit*

Also, very sneaky of him to post this the day after we get a snowstorm. One foot of fresh snow = at the mountain all day :)

Sneaky...or wise...

BTW...thanks for the project...a most excellent way for me to waste some electrons, and will be here full time after I get some ABC done...now to just get all of my PCs on Linux...
54) Message boards : Application Code Discussion : How to install the new optimised clients for Linux? (Message 9391)

Post:
I downloaded the Linux 64 bit SSE3 optimized client, unzipped the files, and stuck them in the Milkway folder. Every WU that has run instantly fails due to computation error, and this is the error it leaves in the Task Details:

"<core_client_version>6.2.14</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[
<message>
process exited with code 22 (0x16, -234)
</message>
<stderr_txt>
execv: No such file or directory

</stderr_txt>
]]>"

What file or directory is it talking about?

I had the same problems...you need to set the permissions for the opt app file and allow it to be executed. Look in the permissons tab and set it for boinc and boinc-client. That should solve the problem...

Nice to see you, Chris S...

I have no complaints either. It's the only project that I will put on my old G4 Mac that delivers somewhat decent credit...
