1) Message boards : Number crunching : Completed, marked as invalid (Message 33048)

I realize that this same problem cropped up a while ago, but I can't seem to find the thread right this moment.

So here's my problem.......on all 3 of my quads, if the work-unit takes 800 seconds to finish I get "Completed, marked as invalid " and 0 credits.
If the work-unit takes 1200 seconds.....all is OK.
I seem to remember Travis finding out that for some reason the validator thought the faster completion time meant that some error had taken place.

Wonder if the experts on this board could help find the cure again?

WOOOOOHOOOOOO...............

That tweak seems to have fixed the problem.....

Heh......now I'm wondering why the GPUs, which reported in far less time, weren't being rated as invalid too?

I surely am grateful to you smart guys for the fast response to this problem.

As they say down here in Dixie......I'm as happy as a dead pig in the sunshine....

Nah, haven't moved 'em yet..........

Just really really dislike seeing all those 0's.......

I'll let 'em run so y'all can see if your tweaks helped.

I certainly appreciate all the work being done to correct this problem.

It looks like I'm still getting the dreaded invalid tags on my quads.

I'm not having any problems on the two GPU machines, or the single cores that I'm running.......just the quads.

I think if I am still seeing the same problem in the morning, I shall let the quaddies do all their work for SETI until you smart guys can figure it out.

If you need anymore invalid workunits, just look up the stats for any of my 3 quads.

Yes, they are all overclocked......no,I don't believe it is the O/C that is at fault.

They have been rock steady for months......and they share time with SETI and aren't having any trouble with W/Us there.

And CP, you're the man I believe can convince Travis to fix what they broke.

And probably show him how to fix it too............

As posted on the front page..."Let me know if you're having any issues with the *_6 workunits."

I did find one workunit of the *_6 variety that was given the dreaded "invalid" label.

Travis might need to do a little more tweaking to get it all straightened out.

A whole lotta wasted CPU cycles the last couple of days.

I've been getting quite a few of these "invalid" WUs also.

Travis has posted that he has fixed the problem with that set of work units.

But, I'm still getting a few as of this morning.

There have been many well thought out answers posted to this thread.

I stand by my first post.

I am running 6 boxes here at home with SETI and MW 50/50.

2 have an ATI card, 4 don't.

I never saw that message about % run time and not finishing in time until I upgraded those 6 boxes to 6.6.36. I saw it on the Video crunchers and on my 3 quads.

I downgraded to 6.6.20 and haven't seen that message since.

So this old Redneck is assuming it had something to do with version 6.6.36.

Actually, the only reason I went to a 6 version was to try CUDA. Only have 8800GTs and abandoned running with CUDA.

5.10.45 was my version of choice and I'm thinking of going back to it.

I started to see that message when I upgraded BOINC to 6.6.36

I went back to 6.6.20 and all is well.

Well, if I can get a screen print from GPU-Z, everything is in order. Says I have my HD3850 AGP card and has Cat 8.12 drivers on it. I don't have the neat little tools I used to have at work (Snag it, Word, etc...), since I retired. It also says I have directX 10.1 SM 4.1, AGP interface at 8x, memory clock @ 669 MHz, 320 shaders, memory clock @ 829 MHz etc... Anything come to mind for the access issue? Thanks.

I'm more of a hardware than a software guy, but since GPU-Z is showing directX 10.1.......you might want to concentrate on getting it back to 9.0 and see if that does the trick.

I found 8.12 at "techpowerup.com"...........

Never could find it on the AMD site.....

I woulda made it a link, but I'm old and no good with BBcode......

I imagine that you have already tried this...........
When I first installed my card, I put version 9.1 in because that is what came with the card.
Nothing but errors like you have experienced.

I then uninstalled everything, and I do mean everything that had ATI in the name.

I then installed 8.12 and have been running error free ever since.

Maybe I was just lucky.......heh, that would be the first time....

I'm running an AGP 3850 in my P4 WinXP pro box.
I'm using the 8.12 version without any problems.
