82% valid tasks, is not going to work in the long run, obviously. But I'll hang around for the shakedown.

Well I'm out of here for the time being as 82% is not satisfactory for me! I realize that MilkyWay is still classed (as far as I know) as an Alpha project, but IMHO it is mature enough that they shouldn't be running tests in a production environment - at least some of these bugs (if not the majority of them) SHOULD have been caught in testing before releasing this new version validator into the wild. See y'all later.

And again ... still nothing has been changed on my end and all of a sudden I'm back to the standard "No Work Available" messages ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Running Client 6.6.28 and although I do have an Nvidia CUDA enabled video card I am only interested in CPU tasks from Milkyway.

Where do I specify my preferences because apparently according to the message logs I'm not asking for CPU tasks?

I think I recall that BOINC only lists the features that the OS recognises. For some reason XP doesn't report SSE3, so neither does BOINC. The Prescot line of P4s has SSE3.

GG is correct. I have a number of P4's that can run SSE3 but are only reported as SSE2 capable. However, the performance difference between the two opti apps is very small, and in day to day terms can be discounted.

Thanks for the replies, but you haven't answered my question. Which opti-app should I be using then for 64Bit SSE2 ?

I need some help please. This is my cpu according to PC Wizard 2008 you will notice it says my Intel P4 has the SSE3 feature. But when I fire up the BOINC Client it says nothing about SSE3.

Up until now I have been running WinXP Home SP3 32Bit and no problems with your opti-app, I guess because your Win 32bit ver 0.19 is kind of a "one size fits all" app and is good for SSE2 or SSE3.

But now, I have set up my machine to dual boot and the new OS is Linux Ubuntu 9.04 64Bit. I already tried your 0.18d mkII for Linux 64Bit but that gave me errors. So now I'm trying to figure out which Linux opti-app to try. Can you advise which app I should use for Linux 64Bit SSE2 ?

I'll double check that, but I was using the SSE3 optimized app for Win 32 bit on this same hardware successfully. The only difference is I recently setup the machine for dual boot with Ubuntu 9.04 64 bit and ran these 2 WU's under that OS.

I may have to revert to the stock app and run some tests that way because when I first ran Linux I immediately installed the opti app without first running the stock one.

Are you using the win opti app or the correct linux app?

Good question! Here's a result from the same machine running under the WinXP OS ...

http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/result.php?resultid=57396519

I'm preety sure that I'm using the Win opti-app for SSE3. On the Linux side I'm not so sure if I'm running the correct app or not, but I thought I picked Linux 64 bit SSE3 there as well. As I said I will have to double check that.

OK, so even though I can run SSE3 apps on this chip running under WinXP, when I fired up the client running on Ubuntu 9.04 indeed it did not list SSE3 as a feature of my CPU, only SSE2. So now the question is, which app do I want?

The 0.18 mkII marked for Linux 32 bit or the 0.18d (older) marked for Linux 32/64 bit. I'm running the 64 bit OS so as far as I can see it's a choice between one of these two but I'm not sure which one.

Just tried running a couple of test WUs using a new Linux machine. I have never run Milkyway before on this machine. I'm using the Linux 64 Bit optimized app from zslip.com. Both seemed to run to completion normally and gave no indication of errors in the BOINC Manager Message Logs but are both reported as Invalid with no credits received.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated. Here is an example ...

http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/result.php?resultid=57525725

You will notice that the Outcome=Success but the Validate State=Invalid ???

Apologies! Problem seems to have been rectified now, but earlier my WU's were running twice as long and still getting same amount of credits.

Should be even better now that the workunits should take around twice as long to crunch.

Wonderful, we've solved the problem of WU availability, but now you've effectively cut WU credits almost in half (for me) yet again!
