I'm absolutely stunned by the lies told about the UK NHS in the American Media at the moment.

Yes ES. I watched the media debate shown on Newsnight tonight, and clips shown by Fox News - both from Euro MPs and so called investigation interviews.

Clearly the US medical insurance, etc, debate wants things left as they currently are - so leaving 45 Americans with no health insurance, and a further 25 million seriously under insured.

But the main blatant lies cane from claims that the UK NHS took up to 18 months to treat terminal conditions, like cancer. Absolute lies, and the from first seen to serious treatment is now down to between 2 and 3 months.

Second, the treatment of patients using advanced techniques is almost on a par with the US. But there is a few new treatments that are not yet available in the UK - like proton therapy.

Fox News is careless in researching its facts on a subject before it broadcasts. It falls squarely in to the camp of Don't let the truth spoil a good story.

Finally, one area that was claimed is that research done under private medical insurance is more advanced than state funded research in the UK.

So, who is currently the leaders in cloning and stem cell research?

I know that the propaganda is being pushed by the insurance companies who make big money and obviously don't want things to change.

I guess we don't realise how lucky we are here. If my children are sick I simply take them to see a doctor. Prescriptions for children are free, which is good thing when you think of how many times they've had ear infections or things like that!

A few months ago I found a lump in my breast. I saw my doctor the same day and the next day I had a hospital appointment with a specialists. Within days I'd all all the scans needed to reassure me it wasn't cancer. That is how it should be in a wealthy developed nation. I hope the Americans see past the lies and vote for what they should have by right. No one should ever be in position where they can't get the care they need and deserve when they are sick.

Briton providing free healthcare to thousands of Americans

This is a good article on the British perspective of what is going on in America regarding the recent healthcare debate: Why I'll never understand Americans

Sounds more like a recipe than a magic trick.

It's all done with smoke and mirrors.

Actually, I'm busy preparing for the Zombie Apocalypse.

That is something that is long overdue...The world is depending on you to stop the zombies.

zombies ... have I heard zombies?! ;)

Could the zombies be outside your door?

I dunno. But everyone knows they are coming!

I hope you're happy now ES! Now I had to search Megan Fox!

When you get a chance, could you stop by & clear out these viruses?

She's the actress from Transformers. Very pretty.

Its said its a good thing to move some times during life - of that
one reason alone; that we see how much stuff we have, and are able
to get rid of all the "crap" ;-) I moved around some times
earlier - but now Ive been living in my house for 12 years - and I
dont even want to think how it would have been to "move out" from
here... Just the thought of that would make me stay - what ever. ;-))

Luckily that is not an issue - at least not for as long as I can see..
I dont envy you the job you have right now Esme.. But you`ll get to
the goal soon.. and can leave with the knowledge that you have sorted
out most of your life that belongs in the past.. THAT is at least
many who would envy you.. ;-)

Thanks Moon. It's actually a wonderful feeling throwing stuff away. Very liberating!

I've been filling holes in the kids bedroom wall all day. Thank goodness for quick drying polyfila...and I was up late last night trying to clear out a virus from my son's laptop. He picked it looking at pictures of Megan Fox. I think there is a life lesson in that.

Not very happy here. No Freehal, no GPUgrid, MW spasmodic, Internet like treacle. There are days I wonder why I bother.....

I'm too busy to notice. I'm staying with my mum while I empty and redecorate the flat.

I've been off work for 2 weeks now and the weather is s**t.

OMG..2 weeks. I'm knackered already. I had no idea how much useless stuff I'd collected since being here. Sold a car load of stuff yesterday and will sell another car load next week. Sent 2 car loads off to storage, not to mention the many, many bin bags full I just threw in the trash... and the place still looks stuffed to the brim!

who'd have thought you could fit so much in one tiny flat?

@ Es99
Maybe the boys are just excited about coming to Canada? Lots of space to explore here at least, some of it looks almost prehistoric.
;-p

They are super excited...but I can't pack with them wrestling each other under my feet all day. They won't go out in case they get stabbed.

I think the problem is my boys are far too attached to their mummy. I shall have to beat them out of the door with a stick.

Simple enough, don't feed them. :p

This is true. I've always maintained that feeding them only encourages them.

That's why in the National Parks the Signs say: "Don't Feed the Bears" or at least they did last I looked, PCness may have crept in there.

"A fed bear is a dead bear"

I just received My Electric and Gas bills today, Elec $82.16; Gas $14.11. It must be from the cooler being on so much.

My monthly electric is something like that...my monthly gas bill is usually about £40. We get totally ripped off in this country on energy bills.

Hei Miss Moon!

Yep, that sounds a good deal all round. Funnily enough everywhere else except the UK seems to have these young peoples camps like you describe. They are very popular in the USA which prompted the famous Allan Sherman song "Hullo Muddah hello Fuddah" from camp Grenada.

There you go Es, ship 'em off for a week!

Oh there are lots of camps and holiday schemes here Chris..but persuading them to go when their friends aren't is another matter entirely.

There is even a summer university thing where they can attend all sorts of interesting classes for free like photography and film making.

Mine have grown up and gone their own ways, but they were - boy, girl, boy - and fought like cats in a bag.

Now all is peace, or some such ...

I don't know why I looked forward to the school holidays so much. They are bored and totally doing my head in.

Great link. Thanks SJ!

It turns out the Comet made quite the impression on Jupiter and some people here and there, A scar about the size of the Earth, If It hit here, It would've been lights out and kiss Your ass goodbye time. There's a thread about It with more info at S@H of course(below). Oh and Yer welcome.

I thought linking to threads on other BOINC forums wasn't allowed? Or is it only the seti mods who are weird like that?

I'm surrounded by Comic Con 'tards. Please remember, even if you are a nerdy tourist you are still required to obey all traffic laws - including, but not limited to, NO JAYWALKING and no crossing the street against the red light! My vehicle travelling at the speed limit can turn you into mush, it'll be your fault, and I'm fully insured.

Your cooperation is mandatory.

Hell.

They'll just use the 'force' and shove your car aside. :p

That happens here some normally. But worse is the cars that run the red lights long after it has changed in front of 1-5 police cars and don't get pulled over.
