It's been almost a year since there was an app for Mac computers. Why does the Mac Q&A still need to be around? I recall the answer in November was "There's still a chance," but I haven't seen or heard any progress since then.

One other consequence (probably small) - no more units for Macs. The N-body only works on Linux and Windows.

Sorry, that's way to whiny for how I actually feel. Lemme start over,

What great news! This is exactly what we have all been working towards! Is there any opportunity to port the n-body work over to Macs now? I would love to continue to support this project with my CPUs.

Sorry about that, I've restarted systems.

I'm in the middle of 3 weeks of work-related travel, so I'm afraid I'm not as attentive as I would be if I were at RPI!

Safe Travels! And thanks for getting it up and running again. I can see that stuff has refreshed, WU's can now be reported, and new ones sent out.

If it helps, I last got work today, May 3rd, at 7:42 AM Central Daylight Time, and I first got the feeder not running error at 8:32 AM Central Daylight Time.

Not sure if this is the right place, but I'm seeing "Server error: feeder not running" when trying to update. And the Server Status page is showing that as well. Is there some maintenance going on?

So it looks like a) the N-body tasks are getting sent out (I just got ~70), and for the first time in a while, they are not all _0 tasks. I am seeing _1 and _2 tasks, meaning that credit may be around the corner!
AND b) the Separation tasks are not getting sent out reliably. I am not seeing any and my queue has run dry.

I recall Tom pointing out that he was going to suspend the N-body tasks, did the wrong switch get flipped? I've done that before.

Please don't take this as complaining. Nobody "owes" my computers tasks or credit. Just trying to capture the situation today.

From what I can see, it looks like the long, long list of n-body simulations is what is sticking in queue for other folks to process for validation. Is the system set up to run through all of them as a first pass before sending out follow-up WUs? Just trying to figure out why my Macs, which are only processing Separation tasks, have about 25 - 50% of tasks in Validation Inconclusive but my Windows laptop, running almost all N-body simulations, has > 90% of tasks in Validation Inconclusive.

To all the folks who have been here a while and are crunching heavy numbers, I tip my hat. To the folks who are actually running this operation, like Tom, you have my deepest thanks. I stopped my Physics education with my BA. The ability for folks to progress beyond that is something I can only marvel at.

I don't know what an RPI is, but I assume it's something to do with accepting funds?

RPI is the university that hosts this program. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rensselaer_Polytechnic_Institute

I'm not getting the "feeder down" message any more but I'm not getting any WU either. Just "Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks"
I suppose it will pick up in a bit.

I was able to finally upload some completed WU's though. So that's a plus.

Thanks again!

It looks like the server is back up and running, but the transitioner backlog is at 46 hours. Did the server rebuild the drive already?

Again, thanks for all the work that's being done for this project! It's fun for us to be able to support it.

The admin, Tom Donlon, has been pretty attentive to the project. He's just had some challenges thrown at him lately. Let's be patient and let him work through the issues. There are lots of other projects to work on in the meantime.

Good point. We are all volunteers here. We aren't "owed" anything by the admin.
