I'm working on a new OpenCL one which should work everywhere(Linux/OS X/Windows/Nvidia/ATI) right now. I hope to have it ready to release in 1-2 weeks.

That's very nice to hear, Matt! There are a lot of people looking forward to testing it out when it's ready.

7 months later ... any change?

It would be nice to get an update on this since so much time has gone by. I'd still love to be able to use the ATI GPU in my Linux system.

Welcome Brian!

It would be great to get some sort of blog from the astronomers / science team reviewing the data.

At least not here, Collatz has one though.

True enough, but it is frustrating when you want to crunch here. There is a CUDA standard project app for linux. Why so long a wait for an ATI one?

Kind of a moot point since there is no ATI GPU application for linux. :(

I have BOINC 6.10.56 installed on Ubuntu 10.04 64 and it detects the GPU just fine using the AMD proprietary graphics driver.

download the 0.23 optimised app from arkayn's site http://www.arkayn.us/op.html and install it according to the readme ...

That site stopped including the readme file in most of the optimized app packages.

David, can you add it back in so that crunchers are given a chance to ignore it? ;)

Posted 6 May 2010 by Divide Overflow
Post:
The old optimized app would have given you some erros on that card. Keep using either the standard project or the latest optimized one.

Try pulling the 4870 and let the new 5970 play by itself for a quick test run. If the errors persist, there may be something wrong with the card. How are your temps?

Post:
With the 5870s, there is so little room between them in the 16x_1 and 16x_2 slots (even kinda separating them as much as possible) that they are running HOT.
...
Does anyone know if I put the 2nd card in the 3rd PCIE slot, will I murder my performance that way too? Or, is there enough bandwidth to not really make it a big issue?

Try moving the cards so they are spaced out and have room to breathe. Since your case otherwise has good airflow you should see your GPU temps improve. Ideally you won't need to throttle them at all once they can get enough air to cool themselves properly. There shouldn't be much of a performance hit from moving that card to the third PCIE slot, if at all. Check back and let us know how things go.

IIRC, there was a BOINC ver 6.1.0 that was a hack to increase the claimed credit value. (Not much use here with fixed credit tasks.)

I hope things can soon be updated to allow the validator to filter out glitches like this, accidental or intentional.

I'll add my request in for a Linux ATI GPU application. Hasn't the source code been available for a while now?
17) Message boards : News : How the new validator works (Message 38876)

Post:
Is the error rate tracked per user or per computer? Is it possible to have this metric added in the appropriate section so that it is visible to us? With the quick purge rate specific task errors can quickly disappear from our sight. (Probably a change request for the BOINC dev team, but worthwhile since this figure is an important part in our contributions and how we manage our systems.)

A quick question, why does the app report that it uses 41% of the CPU?

Mine is showing 1.02 CPUs. Ouch.

Meh. It should be a purely cosmetic misrepresentation that can be corrected later. Are you not currently getting full use of all your CPU cores for other BOINC tasks?
