A quick question, why does the app report that it uses 41% of the CPU? If it not too much trouble, may you look into perhaps lowering the number? perhaps closer to the magic number of 27% ?

While the new GPU app says it makes a high CPU usage on the task list, it is actually using far, far less. Almost all of the work is done on the GPU per Gipsel's impressive original optimization. A quick test shows me that it's using less than 1% of my CPU.

Unfortunately my CPU is also now crunching MW, when it should be crunching primegrid. is there a way to set this up so it only crunches mw on gpu?

Verstapp, go into your account > MilkyWay@home preferences and remove the check for "Use CPU".

Things are looking up! The update has solved the ATI GPU detection and work for the new app is flowing and validating nicely. Good job!

I just tried attaching my 5870, for the umpteenth time now...

Anthony did say that it would be available within the next 48 hours, not immediately. I don't see the new ATI app listed on the applications page yet so hang in there.

Unfortunately the 5770 and 5750 do not support double precision and will not work here.

Work is flowing again and it looks like the validator is playing catch-up. I still don't see the extra information that should be available on my computers though (GPU type and BOINC version). ATI detection still isn't working with the later clients?

(also see if the server doesn't go kerpow again)

Didn't take as long as I thought.

They did say that they would be making some adjustments to the server to help improve things, as well as the anticipated updates to the server code and applications. I'd expect the server to go offline again when these changes are implemented.

Edit: Owch. More hardware problems. :(

Congratulations Dr. Desell! I hope you took the time to celebrate properly.
Now you can get back to work by providing (tasks) for your family (us)! :)

It seems things have stagnated here lately. It would be nice to see some updates done for the project. Updating the server side BOINC code and producing a standard project application for ATI GPU's shouldn't be too difficult to accomplish.

I don't do anything with the XML app_info file, let alone "make arrangements". I just copy it into the correct place and run. I ASSUMED that this application would be ready-to-go when posted.
...
I think there needs to be some/more QA (quality assurance) done on these applications prior to their release.

You'd probably be better off sticking with the standard project applications. You made some pretty poor assumptions.

If you're going to crunch 24x7, I'd suggest waiting 'till some custom cooling solutions are on the market. The improved cooling efficiency can give you longer life span and much lower fan noise at load.

When rolling back, 6.10.3 may error out on those interrupted units that are "waiting to run", so don't worry if has to clear up your plate a bit. From there on it should be smooth sailing. (As much as BOINC ever is...) :)

Am getting a few Computation Errors after 1 second here and there, but most WUs seem to be going thru OK.

This is probably due to your BOINC client 6.10.4 It can leave one workunit in progress and switch to another more recently downloaded one. When it goes back to the interrupted unit it may error out. If you use 6.10.3 this clears up.

Do you have any idea why 0.20 is only giving errors and 0.19 f works fine on Windows 7 X64?

I'm having no trouble with the new 0.20 ATI app on Win 7 64 - using the new Catalyst 9.9 and BOINC ver 6.10.3

It sounds like CP has a suggestions for trying a different Catalyst version.
