Posted 14 Jun 2009 by SATAN Post: I had no trouble getting it to run under BootCamp without a display connected. I don't know whether it is something in the Apple drivers or not, but I can run the CUDA examlples such as oceanFFT no problems and they show perfectly fine. Arkayn might have a better idea of why it works. [img=http://img44.imageshack.us/img44/7240/cudascreenshot.th.png] |

Posted 13 Jun 2009 by SATAN Post: Cluster, I haven't dared mess with the Milkyway stuff, Gave me a big enough head ache just making sure CUDA was installed correctly. Will have a go over the next couple of days. I keep screwing something up because it keeps telling me that not target has been set. Will need to go through take a slow careful look at what i'm screwing up. I doubt i'll notice a slowdown with the desktop though as I run the 8800 purely on its own without a monitor connected. Will post back if/when I finally get the damn thing working properly. |

Posted 13 Jun 2009 by SATAN Post: Glenn, it may well be very easy. It's been almost 10 years since I did anything related to Unix commands. So getting CUDA itself to work is probably far easier than I found it. I found an idiots guide. I take my hate of to Travis and CP for building any GPU app. |

Posted 28 May 2009 by SATAN Post: Travis, It's been a while since i messed around with code and compiling applications, but we are missing the simple_evaluator.h file. It is referenced in many of the .c files. Also when I go to compile the files it is telling me that their are a lot of syntax errors. I am sure you are more than aware of these though. I did make some progress the other night. I managed to get a init_data.xml file along with a stderr.txt file. "Can't open init data file - running in standalone mode Couldn't find input file [astronomy_parameters.txt] to read astronomy parameters. APP: error reading astronomy parameters: 1 called boinc_finish" - is the contents of the stderr file. |

MilkyWay_GPU - Almost There!

Posted 21 May 2009 by SATAN Post: Has the admin really looked at how many folks that have spent thousands of dollars for ATI cards? I for one would not want to be on the receiving end if they don't get ATI supported.. Why should they, nobody asked people to go and spend money on an App that wasn't officially supported by the Boinc system. As far as I'm aware neither Travis nor Dave have gone around holding guns to people's head making them buy GPU to crunch with. People did this on their own merit. I'm saying this as someone that had ordered a new 4870. The App wasn't official, that's the risk people took. |

Posted 13 Apr 2009 by SATAN Post: I seriously wonder how you would pull out that much of credit a day when I'm even having trouble getting new WUs regardless of Windows or Mac, let alone maintaining enough WU cache for one day without babysitting my tower every 2 - 3 hours... Alberto was running this when we had a steady supply of units. The Windows app is 256% faster than that for OSX on Intel at the present moment. So getting an RAC of approx 16,000 would be very plausible. |
