Hi, you can download the statically linked client from here: www.ironcold.de/astronomy_1.24_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu.tar.bz2
It should solve your problems.

I just wish I understood how to do that. Could you give me a little detail? I'm desperate to get back to MW. :)

You would need to install the 32-bit version of boinc to get it working atm.

And here I sit with exactly the same problem hoping that someone with a clue can help. :)

I have renamed the 32bit-version of astronomy to the 64bit version and it is running. The 32bit version is linked statically, and the 64bit version is linked dynamically. It should be recompiled to statically to avoid those problems.

By any chance are these the AMD mobile processors?

One is the AMD mobile, yes. The other one is a Intel Core2Duo. Both worked fine with SuSE10.3.

Make sure your computer is running at spec, run memtest, and if possible uninstall boinc completely and do a clean reinstall of the client and manager.

Based on your experience, I will have to give Suse 11 a second chance with KDE.

Voltron

memtest did show no errors and I have got all the libraries:

It seems to be a problem with libc:

kernel: astronomy_1.23_[12380]: segfault at 41ed5ff8 ip 7f4f28960239 sp 41ed6000 error 6 in libc-2.8.so[7f4f288ec000+14f000]

A clean reinstall of boinc has been first idea but it didn't change a thing. Both machines aren't oc and do not overheat. Memtest would have been my next step, though other projects are working fine, and mw did too with suse 10.3. I'll give word when I recieve the results of the memtest.

And try out KDE3.5! 4.0 isn't stable yet.

This does not address your work units. I tried Suse 11 x64 on a gigabyte p35 board with an ATI 600 vid card and a dual core 4500. What a mess. Ubuntu has absolutely no problem with this config but Suse with Gnome is just awful. Why are you flirting with Suse?

Voltron

I'm flirting with suse since 6.4 and it works fine for me. And I'm using KDE.

BTW, on a third machine it works fine.
