This post can be deleted as soon as read.
I have through the years accumulated about 300 bucks worth of "beer cans" most of which I did drank myself...
I have an older AMD Radeon HD 4800 series.
Used to do awesome, now not so much anymore. 125K/day now maybe 30K.
What can I buy as far as card that can get me back to it or above? you can reply to this thread or if deleted just post me a rough answer please.

Ok thank you so much.

I have 12.6 and found 12.1 on softpedia.
I could not download from bottom link as it was giving me the latest version only.

Also whenever I install Boinc latest version or older my computer crashes as soon as the window pops on after the install. So I am not sure what's going on.

I will uninstall 12.6 and put back 12.1 on when I can get Boinc to work.

On a side note, I may get win7 for this system since XP is almost out and if I open my wallet a bit more I may buy a newer card for it as well. Is there a forum I could get to, to view what cards crunch what (approximation) on a daily basis? Or my 4870 is just fine? (I originally put 4770 but it was a typo mistake in the first post). It is a 4870.

Martin

(UPDATE) After taking 12.6 off and re-installing 12.1 Catalyst, I was able to load BOINC without crashing the computer and it started to crunch right away at stock. I will see how it does and will updated you guys on the average crunching at stock (no apps or nothing)

I just had an electrician install a new plug in my "still in renovation basement" I have a computer that has been collecting dust for a few years now.
It's got XP still on and a ATI 4770. Do I need new drivers for it (old drivers were crunching about 100K/Day at stock BOINC. No XML file or anything to "help" it. Can I just re-install the latest version of BOINC and start crunching again?

Hi TJ I have a similar problem. I see that ATI 4870 is on the list but it is aborting 100% of the WU and then it says computation error.

I run MW@home stock app 0.82 and I have the latest drivers....
So I am at a loss.

I have 100% failure rate for last 3 days and I dont know why.

I too show a 404 error for the optimized link to 4.1 and 4.2 compatible Chipset.
I downloaded the sse3 for now till it is fixed.
Or should just I keep the version optimized v0.88 for now?

Well..... rendered about 8 unusable. Reverted back to 0.88 for now until it finishes the rest.
I have a NVidia GTX 285 and a Q9550 processor.....

I also plan on reutilizing my 2nd computer that has a ATI 4870 running the old 0.19 apps on it. It did quite great but I disconnected it a while ago for basement reno. Can I just restart it and running it again or this is all obsolete stuff now?

I just think at this point we should just be happy to have the app running. CP has been of great help and everyone involved in this project. Granted, the timeline somewhat took a long time but who am I. I am not a scientist or a coder. I am just happy to crunch MW on my GTX285. It will improve I am sure.

Thanks to all of you who made this possible. It is greatly appreciated even though I never voiced it but I just did.

Congratulation on reaching the 8th Digit GG.
This is indeed quite the milestone!

I never thought I would ever reach it but the way things are going now with my 4870 and soon to be released GPU I can only speculate of what the future would hold.
For all the other folks out there congratulation as well.

This probably the wrong place to ask this but it seems appropriate since it talks of the visualization.
Is there a site or URL that shows the progress of the 3D dimensionnal map created by MW?
Since we are all crunching for it, there should be some kind of progress as to the 3D model of the milkyway?
Excuse my ignorance in this matter but I am far from being a scientist.
Would this 3D model look like the 3D model of Google Space?
Or this is only a 3D model of mathematical proportions and none of actual images?
Does this 3D model encompass only points to show the stars?
Is it avaivable to the public?
Does it exist?

So if I understand this scientific language, There was a minor adjustment to the feeder?
What was different? Just a software problem or was it just hardware related.
I seem to have one of my highest day so far at MW. I will wait after the day's routine BOINC update to confirm this.
If only my computer would stop crashing every 15 minutes. It just doesnt like the wireless card in it it seems.

[edit]To reply to my own thread...
Will this mean that the GPU (ATI) will be able to stay here?[edit/]

I never liked Norton allthough I know how to run it.
I always thought that Norton was never user friendly especially if one is not "savvy".
So many time I had to fix computers that had Norton on them and find that it always locks all kind of files on the computer whether it be a roor dir. or not.

I always used kaspersky myself and never had a problem.

Norton can really clogged the system if you don't really know what your doing allthough it claim to be very user friendly but some of its interface is too much for one that is not "savvy"

My opinion.

Agreed.
Allthough I do not mind the occasional argument this thread is going away from it's original point and I too is guilty of it.
There are a lot of valid arguments in here and like they say in Tibet
A thousand Priest, a thousand Religions...

We certainly could go on forever at it since we are all different and of different opinions as well.
It is my wish that this thread be made stickied and closed for future reference of all the new comers.
A many answers can now be found here concerning the lack of work and I for one is sure many new comers will probably find enough answers here to make this thread continue!
Remember that many new comers regards a lot of you as knowledgable and could be intimitated to ask away after reading this thread.
Having said that... Peace all!!!
