What I don't understand is that the Ati cards are running this project right now...Wouldn't it make more sense to start the new GPU project with them since they are already proven to work and add the Cuda in the near future ?? All your problems between gpu and cpu users are solved..........Doing it this way you are causing more problems because you are going to be adding more users (nvidia card) before you move the ati cards to the new project.......

You are probably right. The only problem is that I don't have the code for the MilkyWay_gpu project to do the ATI port (a new application will be required for MW_gpu).

As long as there is no application (and no WU for it and a working website), ATI cards can't start on the new GPU project ;)

I'm afraid they know exactly that.....servers won't be stressed. Plenty time to fine tune Cpu side and Nvidia GPU side.

Time will tell..

Alternatively, for the short term, Intel Mac OSX users could attempt to run VMware Fusion and see if that gives enough support to run the GPU app... A copy of Windows is required as well as the Fusion application.

For the less cost as of all that, you could go to a used computer store, buy the crappiest system they have with a PCIx slot, 40 gig HD, get a used 4870 (I have seen them for as low as $130.00) and walla - 80K a day. All for less than messing around with VM ware, and Fusion - and bloating a GREAT OS (MAC) with something that is as crappy as windoze.

Having windows run inside a VM on a MAC is like introducing my ex with my current. Not a wise choice IMO.

I have 5 v-8's and not really a VMware guy...I've accepted the fact sometimes biggest isn't always the best. It's kinda nice to see some of the people who don't have the bucks to spend except maybe on a video cards be able to shoot up the ranks and have some fun. In time the bigger systems will get the modified apps and drivers to solve the problems I'm reading about here. We all get frustrated sometimes when things don't go our way. I've modified my farms thru the years to stay up with the projects as they changed....it sure can get exspensive sometimes. I opted to stay away from Mac's just because they most of times don't seem to be a good choice on most projects.

Now my 2 cents....a pattern is starting to evolve. Opto the app and do it to good then the credit crunch appears in time. We build and pay for the costs of our systems and are having to deal with this more and more. We don't have much of a say in either. A post is made and then its done...OK , good luck with the project as I'm bowing out also.
