Double post PS: With cat 8.12 - if you install the MW application manually you have to use the AMD version of the app. not the ATI named one. HTH Bill |

Hi refia, With win XP 32 bit, the (only) stable driver on my Radeon 4850 has been catalyst ver. 8.12 on Milky Way. Everything else just crashes or, the WU’s error out immediately ! Bill |

Posted 10 Oct 2009 by Bill592 Post: ......who is going to keep ATI on its toes should Nvidia go belly up? Intel – That’s who. Even if Nvidia “disappears” due to their recent series of poor decisions , Intel will step up to the plate as AMD\ ATI’s main competitor in the GPU wars. As they currently are for CPU’s. Intel has vast resources ( they could ‘Buy” Nvidia without blinking an eye. ) and, put the former Nvidia engineers to good use. Just as Nvidia did long ago with 3DFX ! If Intel decided to, they could be most formidable against ATI in the GPU wars They already have a lot of GPU know-how right now. Bill |

(Message 31091)
Posted 17 Sep 2009 by Bill592 Post: In Boinc is your 'connect every' set to over 3 days? It needs to be under 3 to get more than 1 wu. Thanks Banditwolf ! That is “exactly” what the problem was ! I had changed it a few days ago to connect every 4.5 days because one of my other projects (Einstein) was not sending me enough cpu work. It must have something to do with the 3 day completion time limit on Milky Way. Thanks a Lot !!! Best Regards, Bill |

Posted 16 Sep 2009 by Bill592 Post: BOINC and MW has started this very irritating behavior where it downloads 1 work unit – crunches it – uploads it – requests more work – and then repeats the stupid process over and over again . I have a core 2 duo and, it used to always send me 12 at a time. I am using the new 0.20 app. Win XP 32bit – Catalyst 8.12 – on a Radeon 4850. I am using BOINC 6.10.5 – it was doing the same thing with 6.10.4 and 6.10.3 I think I remember reading about this behavior in the past on the forum but, I cannot find it. Thanks, Bill |

Temporary Availability of the ATI application through BOINC
(Message 30619)
Posted 12 Sep 2009 by Bill592 Post: Generally it will be below 50 seconds for a HD4870 at stock clocks and slightly below 60 seconds on a HD4850. An overclocked HD4890 will cross the 40 seconds mark (900MHz should be enough for touching it). How about a HD5870 with 1200 – 1600 shader units ? :-) They will be out soon. Best Regards, Bill |

Temporary Availability of the ATI application through BOINC
(Message 30558)
Posted 12 Sep 2009 by Bill592 Post: .....as BOINC itself will detect your ATI card and download the ATI app correctly now. A. my card is a XFX brand Radeon HD 4850 B. I am using catalyst 8.12 It works fine with the anonymous platform. I had a hard time installing the catalyst 8.12 driver a couple of months ago. The install program ‘at first’ told me I did not have a usable card installed for those drivers. After a couple attempts it finally went ahead and installed the 8.12 driver and …. works fine ever since. So… I my have some sort of weird glitch in my system which is preventing BOINC 6.10.4 from identifying my card. Thanks [SETI.USA]Tank_M for responding. Bill |
