is confusing. Why not change to
"Completed, waiting validation"
Like Seti
Completed, waiting for validation

so I have shutdown BOINC removed the cc_config files and restarted BOINC.

You have to shutdown Boinc before modifying the file so it can read it on start up.

Tried down In increments down to 0.25 days...No Diff, Must be 6.6.36.
I'm going back to 3 days I think.

6.6.36 has bugs. MW reports won't finish in time. Cache size is irrelevant
6.6.38 (alpha) usually gets 1 WU, goes into EDF finishes it and then returns to other projects. I expect this to continue until the LTD returns to normal.

Is there a way to keep it from benchmarking? (I doubt it) It annoys me when it runs and I loose the work that's been done.

Why don't you ask Boinc questions on the Boinc forum?

How long are the BOINC developers going to let 6.6.36 sit out there as the recommended version? With as much disruption that it causes, you'd think it would be a priority to fix. :(

won't finish in time is a bug in boinc 6.6.36, it's been fixed in 6.6.38
That's still in alpha, but I haven't had any problem with it.

So if my comp is overworked, the scheduler should not request new tasks. Right?
But he does, and the server answers "won't finish in time".
How does the server know that new tasks won't finish in time?
Does the scheduler tell the server?

Boinc wants work to fill its cache and tells the server I want this much and this is what I currently have (a list of task duration and deadlines)

The server then sees if it has a task that can be put into the list without violating any deadlines.

For a long deadline project like Einstein the calculation simplifies to: sum list durations + new task duration + now < new task deadline.

For short deadline like Milky it becomes: if I put the task at the top of the list does that put any other tasks in danger of missing their deadline.

The server has to make the decision since Boinc doesn't know what task duration/task deadlines the server has.

07/07/2009 10:03:45 Starting BOINC client version 6.6.36 for windows_intelx86
07/07/2009 10:06:06 Milkyway@home Message from server: (won't finish in time) BOINC runs 91.0% of time, computation enabled 100.0% of that

Several projects don't like 6.6.36 see http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/forum_thread.php?id=952#27182
If you down grade to 6.6.28 you'll get work
If you empty your cache you'll get work

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=4070 reports:
But with 6.6.36, CPDN gets ALL FOUR CORES assigned (four tasks) and I get no new Leiden or WCG tasks. The messages from the server state that the tasks "won't finish in time".
so this problem is with 3.3.36.

A 2% has nothing to do with getting work. It should only affect how much and how often. That user has 4 cores and experiences the same problem on another project.

Have you installed the optimised application?
No

You also have to understand that this project has short deadlines for a reason and isn't going to change it.
I suggested changing the WU size/deadline ratio. Keep the deadline, use smaller WU. But that was before finding that the problem is Boinc/project related and not because of a recent project change.

If you can't complete a wu in the time you have your machine running with the resource share you have set up, then maybe you need to either 1) increase the resource share, 2) install the optimised application or 3) consider not doing this project.
I already stated that I have 5000 credits on this project and no problems returning WU on time.

your not going to get work when you want it with a Resource share like that
When I want it? Boinc has racked up enough long term debt and wants it.

All you guys want to do is argue (the definition of a Troll!) I'm just reporting the the current version of Boinc has problems getting work from projects including this one, previous version didn't.

I started to see that message when I upgraded BOINC to 6.6.36

I went back to 6.6.20 and all is well.

The message comes from the server, so the ratio does not need to be changed. Something else does. The Boinc version shouldn't affect WU allocation.

That something else may be you just decreasing the amount of Projects/Work Units your trying to do on your Single Core 1.86Ghz Over Worked Laptop.

If boinc is trying to get WUs and is returning all of them on time, then it is not overworked.

On previous versions I would get a Milky, process it and return it, just like the other "minor" projects.

If the Boinc version affects the project then there is a problem with the project.

Your arrogant attitude is another. My lowly laptop has 5K credits on Milky and 10K on Einstein (and we know how big those WUs are) Perhaps you think I should drop Milky and contribute to Einstein instead. Was that your purpose in your post?

I run Boinc with 11 projects, (Milkyway gets 2%.) But I can't get any work, server returns: (won't finish in time) BOINC runs 100.0% of time, computation enabled 99...

I suggest increasing the deadline/task size ratio to get more participation.

Why is it so hard for everyone to get work all the time? The project has WU's to send as shown on the server status page but it takes several requests to get anything. What is causing this problem and is it going to be fixed soon?

I've been getting "No work available" for weeks in spite of the status page. I mentioned that more than a week ago.

These show it's uploading and reporting just fine.
If you meant downloading, it's possible the duration correction factor is to high, cpu efficiency is to low, or the long term debt is low. The first 2 will correct themselves, don't worry unless your out of work. The latter allows other projects to run, don't worry unless you out of all work.

I think the server is doing ok... i'm not quite sure why files are going missing. I've started up a new search and hopefully that will fix the problem of too many work units being generated -- i think that had something to do with files going missing. Hopefully I'll figure out the problem soon.

About half of my machines picked up work, and about half of those had stuck files downloading.

I just posted this problem in Q&A - Windows
The project directory didn't exist. I manually created it and the downloads started right up
