Sorry I couldn't update later. I was on my way to bed when I noticed them running out of work and the normal small cache wasn't being filled. I had the Connection interval at .001 and Additional days at .015. This meant my dual cores and lower always had a cache, while due to the number of cores, the quads would run dry then refill their 20 wus. Anyway, when I saw my single cores and duals working on their last wu, I knew there was a problem and reported it. They (all 8 hosts) infact ran dry and luckily I was here to allow another project to get work for the nite. don't know how long the work was absent. Perhaps we were just getting them faster than they could be made...I don't know.

I awoke to see these posts and some MW tasks on my hosts, so all is good again.

Since I'm going to leave malaria control getting work, I increase the "additional days" to .15.

Milkyway just stopped issuing new work to any of my systems about 10 min ago. Says "got 0 new tasks". Server status currently shows 461 tasks ready to send, but that message is dated and so it appears we're out of work.

forgive the fresh paint on me....yes...I'm that new to milkyway (but not new to boinc). Do you have it set up on the back end to purge and delete the work that's already been assimilated and written to the master science database? Most project purge the hard drives of this old useless data (if it's useless in your case) to free up hd space. I see one of my quads with 7312 wus files and I've only been here just over a week, so maybe you do and I just don't know it yet.

I'm not a linux guru, but have managed to get boinc running in dual boot on many hosts. Anyway, for some strange reason I recently began running out of disk space and would stop getting work. After a reboot it fills with work again, then about 12 hours later it stops getting work because of an "not enough hard drive space" message. This is happening on my AMD64 X2 6000. Using 64b mandriva it was doing a wu in 217-218 seconds, so this morning I rebooted it into win xp pro 64 (64b boinc) and attached. Using winxp pro 64 it is taking 300 seconds (vs the 217 in 64b linux). Strange huh.

I'm posting this for a laugh - and to show the range of hosts I have!

From best to worst:

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+ XP, 428sec
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz XP, 750sec
AMD Athlon(tm) Processor 1.00GHz XP, 1052sec
x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 3 798MHz XP, 1605sec
Pentium(r) II Processor 400MHz Win98, 3379sec

I think I should have started a 'worst times' thread for that last one!

Regards
Rod

Hmmm I wonder what the ABSOLUTE minimum memory requirement is......I might just fire back up my Pentium 60 w/48M of 72nS non-edo ram, Win98se. Ummm, NO, it doesn't have the FPU Bug....I checked.

really...anyone know the requirement??

your welcome. I am starting to doubt the "detachment" resetting the clock...bit. All that a user can so is:

1. ensure same email addy at all projects (the email addy is THE unique account identifier)

and

2. wait

Mr/Mrs/Ms, Butts, I see your similar post over at Orbit.

It can take a couple 2-3 days for the CPID to link up properly. Each detachment resets the clock (I think). Patience has been the only thing required (well, patience and having the exact same email addy at each project). I know of no way to force them to sync up.

hope this helps

I don't know the "best times" but these times were taken from the "est to comp" taken from the boinc manager, so one/two had to be faster.

Paul, Click on my username, then computers, then view. My Q6600 does them in 4:10(OCed to 2.9), my AMD 9600 black (OCed to 2.6) 3:50, my AMD 64 2800 clawhammer 6:10, my AMD64 X2 4800 in 4:27, my AMD64 5200 3:59, and my AMD64 X2 6000 in 3:37. all using 64b Mandriva linux.

Basically, It looks like the mac app is grossly under optimized. Sorry.

tony

{edit} my AMD64 3700 (single core) using 32b windows is doing them in 8 min. I just checked the wife's MOBILE AMD64 3700 and it's doing them in 6:29 with 32b win.
