Well it seems that very soon after posting this tread I am now receiving plenty of the Separation tasks.

So whatever happened my tasks 1C and 8C are now much more balanced.

I had an idea someone tweaked the server but computers have a direction of their own sometimes so maybe the server just tweaked itself :)

I have a number of 1.76 Milkyway@home N-Body Simulation (mt) 8C tasks in the job queue

The auto update downloads new tasks fine just I get 1.46 Milkyway@home Separation tasks one at a time.

It could be more efficient if the job mailer server distributed these "1.46 Milkyway@home Separation" tasks in groups based on the available CPU threads, which for me is 8.

When people are running multiple CPU projects then receiving 1, 2 4, 8 tasks or any other number is not important. This would just help out those solely running MilkyWay tasks. So there is no disadvantage in sending out the single cpu tasks in groups.

Thanks

Hi,

I was not aware I was running this until I checked up on a Computing Error status.

The error log for me reported "Maximum disk usage exceeded" at 35K secs runtime.

I have now de-selected this application, I think its too big for my Mac :)

To help with this beta run I post this image of the task which also shows another WU Computing Error status with "Maximum disk usage exceeded" at 2M+ secs runtime.

Something to consider is maybe you can do an upload at preset % completion points during the WU to reduce local disk loading. This is an approach adopted by ClimatePrediction project where they do an upload at each 25% point.

Alternatively you could allow the WU to auto suspend with a suitable message while waiting for user input to abort or increase the disk allocation.

Hi,

I like to check the logs now and again to see what is there.

From a recent WU: 301462571, ps_separation_14_sSgr_1_1358941502_1507902_1

I see repeated 3 times in the log,

<search_application> milkyway_separation 1.00 Darwin x86_64 double </search_application>
Error loading Lua script 'astronomy_parameters.txt': [string "number_parameters: 4..."]:1: '<name>' expected near '4'
Error reading astronomy parameters from file 'astronomy_parameters.txt'
Trying old parameters file
Using SSE4.1 path

I just point this out in case the file should have been used and for some reason it was not found or not downloaded.

Doing a search for "astronomy parameters" gave no results in the forum so maybe its not been noticed before.

Regards,
