2) Message boards : Number crunching : Does AMD cripple DP performance? (Message 43745)

Looks like I'm buying the HD 6970 then.

nVidia: software limitation (cripples hardware) 1/8 FP32
AMD: hardware limitation (though not crippled) 1/5 FP32

You mean not FP32 and maybe think FP64. That FP64 is important.

I readed on net that DP not have in 68xx but it is on unclear for 69xx.
One user form folding forum, moderator told that FP64 is dropped from 6K series cards. It is unclear to me it is for 68xx or affect for 69xx too. He not talk what cards dropped suppot and he told that CAL BROOK+ is history too. 6K for only OpenCL.

In summer i stopped compute any of compute apps with gpu. By now after 2 years it started to die.
It not do invalid results yet. I cant oc the memory in overdrive for first gpu, other gpu mem is ok.
I readed many forums that these cards started broke up after 2 years of use.

Is your x2 card life is ended for compute or it still alive.

I used mem tester for videocard and all running fine.

I dont konw how ppl with new drivers not work i spend 10 min for remove old drivers and install new ones, and after install i restart pc and all work prefect. After restart i copy and rename cal files and resume boinc for new tasks.

Most i think problem is in pc mobo bios it bad. I always use ASUS mobos even beta bios files and all looks good.

MY pc uptime is weeks even months. I recomend to test pc for folding@home if something not work or EUE, that means pc not stable. Im folder i folded 4 years for 24/7

CPU used in stream cal to feed GPU it use default more CPU usage but like folding@home can be use 1% of cpu if gpu app use this thing in system variables marked this support have in CAL.

BROOK_YIELD = 2
CAL_NO_FLUSH = 1
CAL_PRE_FLUSH = 1
FLUSH_INTERVAL = 128 if this is high number it use more gpu and less cpu if MW app use support this environment variables.

It use after support this low CPU usage like nvida do.

How i get that thing working. cat 9.x x86 boinc and x86 mw app.

1 First use catalyst built in uninstall from cat installer remove all. DO not restart pc.
2 Second i use that thing http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/Other-DRIVERS-TOOLS/Others/ATI-The-Catalyst-Uninstaller-10.shtml
This erase all ati files after program start click cancel.
3 Then use driver sweeper 2.0x remove all ati stuff twice. Do not restart or reboot yet.
4 Then use ccleaner remove all unused reg keys then restart box.

After reboot should videocard use standard vga drivers. Open device manager and install drivers from disk if cat installer refuse install video drivers, ccc and other suff should install fine.
Restart box after driver install

Rename dll files from syswow64 for x64 and x86 from system32
aticalcl.dll to amdcalcl.dll
aticalrt.dll to amdcalrt.dll
aticaldd.dll to amdcaldd.dll
copy renamed files to system32
and syswow64
X64 boinc or x64 mw app shoud maybe use aticaldd64.dll files. 3 files needed rename.

What coolers guys use in here for milkyway for HD4870X2.
I get this cooler on my country http://www.arctic-cooling.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=2_&mID=244

I folded five years and never had overheat problem in year. I stopped gpu folding because unstable machine in wu start and seems AMD newer fix drivers or better cores for this issue. Any all cores are in pre-beta and clients too, one client or two cores per year that bad and always have problems running that folding thing.
Anyway milkiway work perfect on my card with no problem.
