Posted 27 Apr 2010 by autarkis Post: Thanks! We are working towards Top 100 Boinc combined credit next month, and will have beer all around for that day! Gratz to Phillipe and David as well as to the MW project. Overcoming various challenges, the project continues to grow and attract new crunchers! Also, because our team has 3 members in the MW 100 Million club, credit and congratz also goes to the #1 Moony for motivating us all with cake and smiles! Thank you! |

Posted 10 Mar 2010 by autarkis Post: I wouldnt be surprised if this has contributed to problems with the feeder. Just after I bring up my second 5970 :( Personally I dont understand why making hosts hidden is an option. What important information is contained in that data? Well anyway, lets hope when the feeder comes back the WUs are consistant. |

Posted 10 Mar 2010 by autarkis Post: I wonder if those smaller WU caused a bit of server overload< especially if the number of people aborting longer WU started to increase... |

I see that there is no data to work
(Message 32935)
Posted 1 Nov 2009 by autarkis Post: I agree keeping No Work threads in sync, but I think BarryAZ brings up an interesting point/question. I wonder if admins have lost interest. Is this project the primary source of their research results? If the project is run by the school, they should be well into the Fall Semester by now, and you would anticipate that both the computing side and the astronomy side would be interested in the progress the project is making... But perhaps BOINC is not the primary source of data for their research, or there are exams, or a lack of funding (as is requested in a different section). It could be that Travis has had a death in the family, or got a girlfriend, or a thousand other things that pull people away from their computer... For me at least it comes down to why you crunch... I would probably stop donating cycles here if I thought the results were going into the trash bin, and not contributing to very interesting research. But I can not buy a trip to Italy with the credits from BOINC, so Im not sure what all the fuss is about. It does raise a valid challenge for the team at UCB, I would like to crunch MW exclusively, and if there are no WU, then crunch Collatz, etc. But I dont think the current BOINC client can handle that type of scheduling (and personally think it doesnt handle busy project servers all that well either). The interesting thought I had, was that MW, BOINC, and other projects have figured out how to use distributed CPU/GPU cycles, but have not effectively harnessed the immense amount of heart & brain "cycles" on the internet. Other than Gipsel and a few others, how do we leverage this great network of enthusiasts to help out with projects? Sorry Im rambling, but thought I would share a few thoughts on the topic rather than just raising another 'no work' post like I have in the past. |

Posted 22 Sep 2009 by autarkis Post: Glad to be back crunching on MW. As expected Collatz had a big bump over the weekend! Travis, I noticed on the front page that no one notified you, if you need a notification service, Im sure posting your contact info here will get you immediate notification! ;) Hope you feel better soon. |
