Hello Phil,

because of overheating-problems I wrote the following app_info.xml for my Linux-PC:

<app_info>
<app>
<name>milkyway</name>
<user_friendly_name>MilkyWay@Home</user_friendly_name>
</app>
<app>
<name>milkyway_nbody</name>
<user_friendly_name>MilkyWay@Home N-Body Simulation</user_friendly_name>
</app>
<file_info>
<name>milkyway_1.46_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu__opencl_nvidia_101</name>
<executable/>
</file_info>
<file_info>
<name>milkyway_nbody_1.70_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu__mt</name>
<executable/>
</file_info>
<app_version>
<app_name>milkyway</app_name>
<version_num>146</version_num>
<platform>x86_64-pc-linux-gnu</platform>
<avg_ncpus>0.841226</avg_ncpus>
<flops>26085160280.017189</flops>
<plan_class>opencl_nvidia_101</plan_class>
<file_ref>
<file_name>milkyway_1.46_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu__opencl_nvidia_101</file_name>
<main_program/>
</file_ref>
<coproc>
<type>NVIDIA</type>
<count>1.000000</count>
</coproc>
<gpu_ram>268435456.000000</gpu_ram>
<dont_throttle/>
</app_version>
<app_version>
<app_name>milkyway_nbody</app_name>
<version_num>170</version_num>
<platform>x86_64-pc-linux-gnu</platform>
<avg_ncpus>8.000000</avg_ncpus>
<flops>4049561889.679832</flops>
<plan_class>mt</plan_class>
<file_ref>
<file_name>milkyway_nbody_1.70_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu__mt</file_name>
<main_program/>
</file_ref>
</app_version>
</app_info>

You have to modify
- the name of the executables if you are using Windows (or the version changes! In this case run BOINC without an app_info.xml first to download the new files.).
- the "plan_class"/"type" according to your GPU (the correct values can be found in your client_state.xml).
- the values of the "flops" to have right runtime estimations (-> client_state.xml).
- the values of "avg_ncpus" (-> client_state.xml).

I hope this will work on your machine, too!

With greetings

Your definition and MS' definition of "spywarefree" aren't the same. I too understand your frustration and violation of principals but I've chalked it up to it's not worth the effort besides....

I have some linux machines and VMs but I still use a windows machine for my daily/typical use. It's my own habits and comfort that keep me subscribed to the MS machine. I don't buy anything but Windows licenses from MS, and when I do I find the best deal.

That is the point. I also enjoyed working with Windows for 17(?) years and would like to do so furthermore.
But do I therefore want to give up my privacy?
I don´t know if I should!

My answer in the Collatz-Forum:

I don´t want to be tracked because I don´t want to be tracked.

I allways found what I was searching for.
I´m not interested in helping a shop selling goods I don´t need.
I recommend the Microsoft shareholders to look for a job, if they need more money.

Keep your fingers of my life!

BTW Microsofts description of the "Diagnostic Tracking Service" is:
"The Diagnostics Tracking Service enables data collection about functional issues in Windows components."
This has nothing to do with search site optimization.
And - as long as I have no possibility to control what is sent to MS I will never ask anybody before starting a discussion about it!

Ich sehe gerade, dass Sie wohl deutschsprachig sind. Klicken Sie auf "Start", geben Sie unten "Dienste" ein und betätigen Sie die Eingabetaste ;)

It is the "Diagnostic Tracking Service" in your services-folder; I don´t know the exact English word for it.

Hello world,

I know it´s off topic, but because this is the most read thread, I post here:

Did anybody but me recognize that Microsoft installed the former optional "Diagnostic and Telemetry service" on ALL Windows 7-machines with the latest "Quality"-Rollup?

Greetings
