MW power outages
(Message 22725)
Posted 19 May 2009 by ![]() Post: From the front page, in case you missed it: Power Outages (Continued) May 19, 2009 Looks like the power is going to be out until tomorrow morning with another outage tomorrow afternoon. I'll post more information as we know about it. Another Power Outage May 19, 2009 There's another power outage today at 4PM EST, which will bring the server down again. I'll try to get it up and running right after the power comes back. Back up and running May 18, 2009 The reason we went down today a few times was that there were power outages on campus while they were doing things to the electrical system. Hopefully things should be up and running smoothly now. So, down in one hour, back up again sometime 12-16 hours or so... -jim |

Why does MW scan a random port with each server contact?
(Message 21679)
Posted 9 May 2009 by ![]() Post: It appears that the mystery packets are coming in "new not syn", which is said most likely to be caused by a broken TCP implementation. They are all part of the exchange with the server but for some reason come in with no sync bit. I doesn't seem to cause any stutters in the overall transaction, I can upload, report, and if there's work available, download it. I read a couple articles that claimed that MS IIS strayed from accepted TCP protocols and use the 'new not' syn' scenario as some sort of speed up mechanism for it's servers. FWIW, Milkyway is running Apache. Yay. :) But now it's Friday evening, the Cubs are on, as is my low alcohol light. So I officially make this a "tomorrow problem". :) Hmm. Not a baseball fan, but a refreshing beverage sounds like a fine idea. -jim |
