26) Message boards : Number crunching : Could We Get a Paper On This? (Message 3634)

Well they are still getting through, but not as many as before. I checked my PC's this morning and there was one wu on seven machines that had run for over 6 hours. That's almost another 50 hours of dead time that could be spent processing science for this or another project. My original estimate was way off and could be double the 150 hours I stated before.

How hard is it to purge a database when you know that all the wu's start with the same numbers ??

I am still getting the occasional bad work unit. I aborted about six just then when I checked my pc's. I have 13 pc's and only check them once a day. I would estimate, (using the SWAG principle) over 150 hours of crunching has been lost on those wu's, on my machines.

Is there going to be any credit for them ? I hate to think that I have waisted all that processing time. I stopped crunching when the problem was discovered, and returned after I thought it was fixed, but they seem to be still coming.

I've got two 2h-ones yesterday, and one 4h-one just now. I've killed them, have the project set to NNW and am just waiting to report them back before resetting the project. Or is there no need to report them?

we might have found the problem. we had the wrong script set up to dump the database every few days -- so while i took the server down this morning to get rid of the ones from the new search, the database was too slow to do anything.

i'm running a full purge (which is gonna take quite awhile), but after that i'll get the remaining gs_3737... WUs out of the system. i've already stopped the search so there wont be any new ones generated. hopefully they'll get out of the systems quickly.

Thanks for the update! Looking forward to getting on with the new WU's once it sorts out :)

I just got three of the 3737 wu's, I thought that they were all flushed from the system ????

EDIT: All my PC's are getting them now. I have set to "No new work" again till it is sorted out.

I would like to thank all the members of BOINC@AUSTRALIA that attached to Milky Way and successfully solidified second place in the world. We did not have the numbers to compete with L'Alliance Francophone, but were successful in keeping SETI.USA in third place at least for a while anyway. We can work on first place and try the tortoise approach.

Thanks again for all members that helped, even though it was during AA12. Keep an eye on the Team forum for the AA13 nominations and voting.

I'm pretty sure we have access to AMD64 machines (one of our clusters run this i believe). I'll try and get our labstaff to put boinc on it so i can compile a binary for this architecture.

Feel free to drop me a line if you'd like help in porting the app to 64 bits. ;-)

Thanks.

Has there been any progress on Getting a Linux 64 bit application ?

Yes that would be great. Although I have it running on a few of my Linux 64 bit PC's that used to be 32 bit, I guess they have the 32 bit library's

A true 64 bit application would be great..
