Just read reviews. not really...
6970 got 2703 GFLOPS which is even less then 5870 (2720 GFLOPS). and on top of that it's hotter then 5870, even using vapor chamber. 6950 got 2253 GFLOPS.

Hmmm, I not really impressed and that's not I was waiting for. At all... Smth definetely wrong...

69xx will be available 2morrow (Dec 15)

recommended prices are: 6970 - $369 and 6950 - $299. Looks fine for me :-) But only performance is 25% higher then 5870, which I can get for $280

I wonder to see performance boost in MW against 5870...

yep, agree. dp is 1/8 of sp instead of 1/2... so, there are no changes in my plans to get pair of 6970 :-)

when u plan to release OpenCL app for Ati? :-)

615 secs??? wow... even if u run 2 WUs concurrent, it too much. my 4870 run it in 325 secs and 4890 in 312 secs. but taking in consideration dp cropped by nvidia in fermi cards...

But anyway I'll try it on GTX275

ok, I understand - I have to move to CUDA 3.0 at least.

The latest driver (260.19.21) is on CUDA 3.2, so I think it's necessary to get cudatoolkit 3.2 from here

Thansk, guys :-)

The only thing - I tested that on GPUGRID and there cuda 2.3 is way faster then codu 3.0 and just faster then 3.1... But NP, I'll try latest drivers...

Zydor,

thanks a lot for your post about GPU and BOINC history. Recently I made a topic asking "WHY?" and I know the answer. It's no MW problem...

that's true - while your card is in 2D mode already, nothing much you can except reboot your rig.

And that's i'm talking about - u need to to reduce the clocks before playing the game. and in order to do so it's nice to have 2 profiles.

what "overheat situation' u r talking about? if during gaming - that's OK, that is why driver goes to 2D mode. In fact, this 2D happends during the game, u just not noticing this :-)

while 890 is OK for crunching, but it's too much for the game. your card can not handle 890 in the game and reseting the card to 2D mode with 400 clocks. that's the answer on the question "WTF?"

all you need to do is to make another "gaming" profile with lower clocks (i can say 850 is OK and stable while it's stock clocks) and switch to it when u wanna play. after the game switch to "crunching" profile with 890 clocks. it's not straight-forward but that's life, man :-)

and just small piece of advice - try to play with GPU voltage (if your card can do so), especially for "crunching" profile and if u r lucky enough u can hit 1000ish clocks :-)

Hi:
From my point of view I believe getting couple 470 or 480 GPU is far more effective.I have AMD 1090T 6 cores and ATI 5770 and my result are meaningless. I'm thinking of adding 460 or 470 for crunching only to get more results .

Also note that the majority of the science projects support Nvidia only.

Hi,
here's some comments.

1. we r on MW forum. it's not a big secret that MW works way better on ATI (AMD) cards rather then nvidia. Buddy from my team got huge pain in a.s trying to run his 460 in MW. In fact, my older 4870 gets more credit then 470. if u wanna compare 5870 with 470/480 - good luck :-)

2. I'm not discussing drawbacks of crappy nvidia cards (heat, noise, less productivity in MW, price, huge power consumption, etc.) as well as which card to buy. I had decided already - while 6870 has no dp it will be 6970.

3. I wonder how you crunching if u've got 5770 :-) you use your CPU only. if u wanna increase drastically your result u should get card with dp support.

4. "majority of the science projects support Nvidia only"
could u pls name these projects except GPUGRID and einstein (which is not really uses graphic card)? and them compare this qty with rest of the projects.

5. some projects (and MW is one of them) started to write apps on OpenCL where these is no difference between AMD & nvidia. so it's user's choice only which card to use but not the project.

All I need to know if there are chanchings coming or not.
