Yes, an update of what is going on with the screensaver would be most welcomed.

Would be interesting to see how the 6950 and 6970 perform in Milyway@home. The new architecture features some new GPGPU features and it would be nice if the coding people in the project managed to take advantage of these new features to unlock all the potential performance out of it.

Thinking of getting a 6950 to replace my 4890.

From my understanding, Cayman shaders will be quite different that the ones found in Evergreen or Barts.

Hi guys. After reading about the new Cayman architecture it seems like it will provide some serious crunching performance compared to Evergreen.

The SP to DP performance ratio has been improved from 5:1 to 4:1 and it has now some added GPGPU features.

Does the Milkyway@home team have any plans for optimizing their ATI app to take advantage of the new power and features?

Hi all,

Friend's birthday is coming up and we are all collaborating to get him a telescope. I was planning to get him an Orion Skyquest XT8 but the delivery costs are prohibitive since the shipping alone is €485 exceeding the price of the telescope :(

Since most of the people here have space-fever, great knowledge of telescopes is a guarantee.

I am planning to make the purchase from http://www.astroshop.eu but if you can point to another European shop that would be nice.

Basically l am searching for something simple but not a telescope aimed for kids. Ability to hook it up with a laptop for easily locating objects would be nice but not required.

In addition if anyone has any idea for any compatible solar filters(so that you can view the sun without injuring your eyes would be nice).

Our budget is €500.
Thanks in advance,

Hi all, this is my first post in the forums but l have been crunching for some time now.

Interesting scenario there simplex0 and nice reply by Joses. Indeed if galaxies were moving closer to us then they should appear brighter.

Correct me if l am wrong and this might sound stupid to most of you, but how do we know where the galaxies should be moving towards to if we don't know in which space the big bang occurred? And technically that would be hard to pinpoint since space as we know it is a product of the big bang as well(as far as l remember).

It is very puzzling that galaxies move away from us at ever increasing speeds.

Again sorry if my post is stupid.

Nice to finely hear that the screensaver is being worked on. I like the first option best but since there will be some preferences to choose from, it sounds nice.

Hopefully this will draw even more people to the project as well.
