If I throttled the memory speed like this would I then have to manually kick it up again when I want to game on the card?

It get proper graphics performance yes. Otherwise you are bottlenecking your memory performance. (btw ATI's memory controller is one of their strongest points)

I just installed on Boinc Manager on my PC. However it's running 100% on both my GPU devices (ATI 5980), this is causing the temperature of the card to go sky high and fans to come on etc. Unless ye can put in a fix I'm going to have to remove the milkyway@home altogether :(

Try using the AMD GPU Clock Tool to lower your memory setting to 300mhz. MW only uses the core clock. It reduces the temps on my overclocked 5870 by almost 10 C.

Doing that and having a custom fan profile keeps my GPU at +/- 66 C.

Dnet does give more credit, but with MW, as many have already said, you can run your memory speed at minimum and not affect your performance (maybe 1 or 2 seconds from observation)! Running my 5870's memory at 300mhz in lieu of 1200mhz helps quite a bit to keep the card cooler!

Still would like an option to have bigger wu's, like Dnet. At +/- 85 seconds per WU, they just go by too fast.

Oh, and never experienced any Lag issues, probably another factor which causes it. Using 10.8 drivers right now, no issues.

My 5870 has been burning through WU's in +/- 80-85 seconds per WU. However between WU's I can see a drop in GPU activity, it is very short, but it is a drop.

This drop is it lost time as the WU changes? Would longer WU's increase effeciancy? Or it is code being unloaded & reloaded into the graphics card? I'm only asking this questions because the WU's fly by so quickly this drop happens very often.

Have a 5870 with i7, using 10.5 since release, no problems so far.

New cruncher here!

Standard 5870 with mild overclock @ 900 core/1300 mem runs a wu in about 1:26 minutes. (could reduce my mem speed for MW, but I am also encouraging all ATI gpu projects! The more the better! And very nice work getting this GPU app running this efficiantly.)

I put my fan speed at 65% with a GPU temp of +/- 60°C to 64°C, case temp +/- 27°C. Ambiant +/- 21°C. Looking to keep the GPU nice & cool for the long run.

I am also running other projects on my cpu (sorry MW, but the difference is just not worth running it on my CPU!), i7 920 @ 3.2 with 8 treads loaded at 100%. So I might be losing a few seconds per wu because of it, but I figure it's a fair trade-off.
