Every time, When I resumed MW, I can and only can finish a WU. And then, the video card driver broke down after BOINC 6.10.11 launched the next one WU of MW ! At this time, Windows XP + SP3 turned the screen to blue background and said system was ruined by Ati2*.sys (sorry, I forgot the file name). But if I resumed a WU after the previous WU was completed, they will be done ?! The program ati 2.0b - SSE2 runs on 4850 drived by 9.4 / 9.10 beta with PSU 400 ! This same environment running Collatz C (following call CC) is perfect ! Compred to CC, I ensure my system including software & hardware is ok ! What's going wrong ? Thx ! |

Hi refia, With win XP 32 bit, the (only) stable driver on my Radeon 4850 has been catalyst ver. 8.12 on Milky Way. Everything else just crashes or, the WU’s error out immediately ! Bill |

Hi, Bill Thanks for your message :) .... That means : 1. 4850 drived by catalyst 9.x can work. 2. It cannot run continuously except I launch the WUs manually one by one. Why ????? :( |

refla I think what Bill592 is referring to, for a PC running 32bit XP Pro and an ATI HD4850 is to run Catalyst 8.12. I run mine like that and use BOINC Manager 6.10.13. The older ATI Catalyst graphics card drivers can be found here. The process would be to download 8.12 to a folder on the local machine. Then uninstall the ATI Catalyst driver currently being used, via /Control Panel/Add Remove programmes/. You then install the 8.12 Catalyst suit. Go away, I was asleep |

Hi, John Clark well, that seems I have to downgrade Catalyst to 8.12 :-( I hope it would not hinder CC...... But I insist my point that there is a bug in ati2dvag.sys! Because XP reports 'The device driver got stuck in an infinite loop.', when WMs were scheduled by BOINC. However, if I suspend all WUs of WM, then resume one after the previous WU was completed, thus the question was finally settled! That's why I said 4850 cannot run WUs of WM continuously! I hope Ati/AMD's driver coder could pay attention to this problem. |

If you want to use your ATI HD4850 GPU to crunch Milkyway and Collatz work units, then the combination mentioned in my post is the one to let you run the PC continuously. If you need to confirm this point then you can see instructions and links at ICE's community facility here. This covers all Milkyway CPU and GPU clients, and the link to the Catalyst Control Centres that have been found to work. This does not mean that higher versions of ATI's CCC than 8.12, 9.1 and 9.2 do not work. Go away, I was asleep |
