We are currently in the process of testing our new site layout. If you'd like to get a sneak preview go to http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/index_new.php

In css add this line:
a img { border: none; }
Otherwise, nice, gray.

There is no link for "Server Status" under any of the tabs.
Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected?
If it makes sense, DON'T do it.

Fixed the img border, thanks for the tip.

There is a link for server status under the "Community" tab but, perhaps that's not the best place for it. Would "Project Info" make more sense? or maybe the main page?

I would prefer 'Project Info'.

I found it. Didn't notice it going through the menus.

It looks horrible, like a copy of the old apple homepage ... anyway, sinc we're now stuck with that mess (an alternative link to the 'old' homepage would have been nice), you should have used some dropdown menues like Docking@homes uses them (http://docking.cis.udel.edu/)

Now let's get to the part where you screwed up even worse .... people are unable to attach to milkyway because of the new homepage...

Here's why ---> http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/forum_thread.php?id=1819&nowrap=true#40649

I find the new design quite ok. But what I really don't like is the use of serif fonts like Times New Roman - I always found those are not very well readable!
Funny enough these fonts with serifs are not shown on the front page unless you hover over the columns or click on them and then the next page is all in the new serif font, too.
I'd prefer a consistent font style (without serifs) throughout all pages. ;-)

EDIT: The above applies to using FF 3.6 - with IE also the front page shows with serif font. Argh... *grin*
Lovely greetings, Cori

What's wrong with Arial? its good enough for me...
I think a Server Status link would be good too.
However the only time I'm likely to want to look at it is when I run out of work. And then I generally can't get to any MW page anyway...
Cheers,

PeterV

The font style doesn't matter to me. The size on the tabs seems a tad large for me.

I don't mind using Arial because it's without serifs!! :-)

PS. Someone already seems to have changed the font style for the new design and now the front page looks much better. :-)))
And I see a server status link has been added to the main page, too! Sweet! :-)

    The star background on the homepage looks nice. It would be better if it was repeated downwards.

    The "click here" in (click here for a simulation of how a galactic collision turns a galaxy into a stream-- simulation by Kathryn V. Johnston at Columbia University) does not work.

      I just noticed something that's missing from the new homepage: a 'Read More ...' button underneath long news updates. You can click on 'Comment' to go to the thread, but that's hardly an intuitive way to read all of an update.

      I agree. I think we should change "comment" to "more" since clicking on this does not actually take you to the comment interface.
