I have to say that just a day or two before the triple stamps were on offer I decided I should get a few more credits in MilkyWay, get them up to a hundred million. I didn't exactly rush over here and neither did I have any other reason to point my ATI guns at MW than when I decided to point them at any other project. Perhaps I had some mystical intuition to bring me here just before the MW servers got so friendly. Perhaps they got friendly because I arrived here, having missed me so much. Who knows? I certainly didn't think I'd get to my hundred million so quickly. |

Well right now I'm focused on fixing the problem. Chances are I'll just let everyone enjoy the free credits, instead of mucking around in the database and potentially making things even worse. Good idea. Thanks for all the fish! For a few days we got to run a useful project at the same credit level as a not very useful one (won't mention names but maybe it begins with dnetc). |

It was good fishing while the fish were shoaling. Go away, I was asleep |

It was good fishing while the fish were shoaling. Fishing with dynamite! Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

Is that what you use to crunch Milkyway? Fast crunching of work units! Go away, I was asleep |

It seems Milkyway doesn´t like me. I´m only crunching with CPU because no DP card yet. But i only get a few unit to crunch while i get shooted with einstein. Settings are 2 days with 50% share. Very weird. |

Simple said: Increase your additional cache to like 5 days for some time, so that BOINC gets an better idea how fast mw WU's will run on your computer and than slowly lower your cache again until you are back to where you like it. It is far more complicated and I will try to give you an idea about it. MW has to types of WUs for CPU: - separation WU: The amount of calculations needed are good to predict by the project and BOINC has a good chance to find a proper factor (DCF) for your system in a reasonable time. - nbody WUs: Here it is a lot harder to predict the number of calculations needed and the project stuff is trying to find a better algorithm for it. For the time being they had to set it to a high value (like max for long running WUs) to prevent BOINC from steady going into panic mode. You can see, here it is harder for BOINC to find a proper factor for your system. Since BOINC has only 1 factor (DCF) for CPU per project, it will include time prediction for both types and making it less reliable to prdict how many WUs your CPU can calculate in a given time. If BOINC fears it can't finish WUs before the deadline with your share of projects, it will set those WUs to high priority (panic mode) and let the other projects wait until it is settled. |

I understand, but i have to get some first. Have set cache to 8 days with 200 share. Einstein at 20. Still have 68 einstein units in cache. My machine completes 6 units in 5 hours so thats only 2 days worth. But all i get is this.

Provided the time taken (according to BOINC estimates, never mind reality) to clear the 68 einstein's is less than 6 days you should get some. Another way to force it is to suspend other Projects for the duration of the download, that will force BOINC to ignore the held cache in its calculations of other projects. Doing that drives a coach and horses through the whole long term BOINC management as designed, but if you need 'em such is life, thats how to get them. However at present the Validator is choking again, and WUs awaiting validation is building (usually around 6,500 currently over 25,000. When the server gets like that it will refuse to send out WUs, pointless if they cant be validated on return. Being a weekend, it could be a while before the Validator is freed up again. A peek at the Server Status page will show the latest. Regards Zy |

Cache setting is too high for MW. |

No credit at all for anything done in the last hour --- at least for me --- wonder if this is the flip side of the coin from last weeks problems?? Regards JRHG |

No. It is following the choked validator history, and will remain that way until the servers are kicked. Go away, I was asleep |

Double counting of wus seems to have been re-installed ... and i'm not complaining ;) |

According to this, boinc thinks you have more WUs than you can complete before they expire. When this happens it stops DLing any new work until it clears the backlog. IN your case the backlog is almost certainly Einstein WUs. IF this is actually the case (Are your Einstein WUs finishing in about the same amount of, or more, time as the estimates?), you should abort some of the Einstein task. IF it turns out boinc is just confused about how long they'll take it will self correct after a few days and then run MW primarily or exclusively for a while to make up the deficit it's currently undergoing. Due to vargarities of the scheduler even after you're caught up boinc is unlikely to consistently have exactly half of your cores running each application at any given time. |

I´m aware of the message. But my machine completes the work much faster then extimated. Will give it another shot tonight. |

A few days will get the estimates correct Mike. The system needs crunched work where the time taken is used to pull the estimates for the work in your BM cache and correct them. Go away, I was asleep |
