Welcome to the project. I'm an ATI man myself :-) I too have become an ATI man, but may branch into Nvidia cards again if one of my new X6 machines continues to give me troubles!! Right now it is a bad memory card that is being replaced by Kingston for free, they are even paying the Fedex shipping! When the new ones get here I will try with an ATI card again, hopefully it will work just like they have in the past! |

thanks Freddie....all of our pc's crunch workunits, each workunit is a scientific problem that needs answering to get the answer to the big picture. Leave one answer out and the key to conquering cancer may never be found, sure some of us can do hundreds or even thousands of workunits per day, while you can do what you can do. BUT without us working TOGETHER the ONE workunit that has the key may not get crunched for many years to come, and wouldn't that be a tragedy! What if during our mapping of the MilkyWay we 'discover' a system that can support life as we know it? Without ALL of us doing our part it might not happen for a very long time, but TOGETHER it can happen much sooner! It ALL matters!!! |

the last time i built a puter was when 386's and 25 mhz was the top of the line could you help me build 1 with like 4 cpu's dedicated to this project Boy have things changed since then! It depends on what parts you already have and what parts you need to buy, the more parts you need to buy the better it is to buy a pre-made pc. Overhead has gone waaaaay down on pc's these days and buying the parts then putting them together is not a whole lot cheaper then buying a machine anymore. Now if you are just upgrading the motherboard, cpu and memory it IS cheaper to do it yourself. You can buy the parts, pick up in store only, at Microcenter to build yourself an 8 core AMD FX-8100 with motherboard, cpu and 16GB of memory for about $300 dollars! But it ONLY takes Sata drives, so if you need to buy those too that is more money, etc, etc. The cpu, in my example, DOES come with its own fan, BUT NO case, power supply or gpu though!! Windows is another expense! |

COOL i will look into a prebuilt one seems th best way to go If you have a local mom and pop computer store you can probably get a nice custom built one fairly cheaply. I do this all the time, I buy the motherboard, cpu and ram from them, they put it together and then I put them in a case and add the rest. |

I have a question: this is the first time I've visited the site but I've been running Milkyway@home for years. I also run Seti@home. Are there any graphic programs we can download to show what we're doing, i.e., like seti has = graphs, etc.? Thanks everyone for allowing someone like me to participate in something so important as this project! |

Go under your account on the web page and then check out the various stats programs, some have graphs and some are pure numbers, and of course some are both. |
