I have a laptop with a QC i720 and a Mobility Radeon HD 5870. I am using the latest 11.5 Catalyst drivers that were just released under Win 7 x64. I have joined up to MW and downloaded the app to BOINC. I can run CPU based workunits, but I am getting the message Milkyway@home Message from server: An ATI GPU supporting double precision math is required Can someone please refer me to the proper place to configure BOINC/MW to run GPU tasks? I have verified that the 5870 does have double precision, but I don't know why this meesage is coming up. Thanks |

Mobility Radeon HD 5870. Can someone please refer me to the proper place to configure BOINC/MW to run GPU tasks? I have verified that the 5870 does have double precision, but I don't know why this meesage is coming up.The Mobility Radeon 5870 is NOT the same as a desktop 5870. It's closer to a desktop 5770 and doesn't have doubles. None of the current AMD Mobile GPUs have them unfortunately. |

Are you 100% certain on the mobile ones not having double precision? If so, I must have confused the desktop 5870 with the mobile. |

http://developer.amd.com/gpu/amdappsdk/assets/AMD_APP_SDK_Getting_Started_Guide_v2.4.pdf Section 5 lists the GPUs with doubles. None of the Mobile 5xxx have them. |

http://developer.amd.com/gpu/amdappsdk/assets/AMD_APP_SDK_Getting_Started_Guide_v2.4.pdf The referenced pdf also says the HD 4770 does not support double precision, yet it certainly does. So I'd take that info under advisement. |

The HD4770 certainly does support dp, however, the mobile ATIs also certainly don't support it. It's been a pain in the *** for some time that nVidia and ATI keep using similar names for mobiles than for desktops, yet the mobiles are often quite different chips. Recently we tried to run Matlab on a GT220M. Guess what.. the GT220M has absolutely nothing to do with a GT220 (CUDA Compute capability 1.2), but rather seems to be a something similar to the old Geforce 8600 (CUDA Compute capability 1.1) and thus can not be used by Matlab at all. And that's just one example, there are many more.. MrS Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002 |

I'm running 2 x HD4770 and I can confirm that they do indeed run double precision which is needed for Milkyway. With a mild overclock they give almost the same output as a stock HD4850, and run a lot cooler as well. Don't drink water, that's the stuff that rusts pipes |

I was really disappointed too when I found out my HD mobile 5870 cant be used as well, so much power untapped...sigh |

True, though ive been only really interested in the space based projects and was hoping to use it on one of them lol. Well I just managed to get the folding at home gpu client working, so I'll use the gpu on that and my cpu on milky way. |

... and my cpu on milky way. Make sure you only run the n_body jobs on the CPU. MrS Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002 |
