What is the oldest ATI/AMD GPU series that can handle OpenCl, whether double or single precision is used? I heard that this is the HD48XX series, and that the HD38xx series is too old!! Go away, I was asleep |

I've got a HD4870, and have been receiving the OpenCL problem since the last Catalyst patch/release. We've put it down to AMD pulling support for OpenCL. |

The latest driver version supporting your card and OS seems to be 12.4 (with openCL). Version 12.6 and later still includes openCL but needs at least a 5xxx series card. |

You can get the drivers here: http://www.hal6000.com/seti/boinc_ati_gpu_cheat_sheet.htm The download links are at the bottom of the page, below the first chart. |

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I forgot to track the message and wrote my problem off. I had tried going to older drivers before with no luck. Just now I removed the drivers and used the driver clean before installing v12.3. However, I'm still getting... "App version needs OpenCL but GPU doesn't support it" along with... "Milkyway@Home | [error] Missing coprocessor for task xyz; aborting" |

Ahha! Solved it. Seems like OpenCL gets broken when you go back to older drivers. You have to manually delete the OpenCL files and have the drivers you're installing reinstall them. Instructions in link below. http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=359883 |
