No John it means you are either lucky or that you just walk in the snow!

KWSN I am happy to hear you got a break from shoveling, but sad to hear it is coming around again! I live just South of Washington DC and if we get an inch or two the whole place just shuts down! We get sticking snow so rarely that the people forget how to drive in it and drive like NUTS!! We have had MANY storms where people just give up and get out of their cars, right in the middle of the road, and start walking!! That of course makes it impossible for anyone else to get thru that area, making it even worse!! We had some flurries on 24 December but nothing since and the weatherman is saying by this coming Friday it should be 64F!!

WINNING!!!

Mikey, living in central Illinois, we have not had to shovel much. I would not mind a good sixteen inches of snow. But with temps headed near fifty by Friday, all we will see is rain. The first snow is way crazy here too. Like nobody has ever seen snow before, must be a universal problem.

Winning!!!

My wifes aunt and uncle live near you then, they live in Taylorville, Ill off of 51. It is a small farming town that is nice and friendly!

The problem with our snows here is they come so infrequently the people never actually get used to driving in it, it is like they have to learn how again EVERY TIME! We only get snow once or twice a year and even then it is usually in the 1 to 3 inch range. The plows too ALWAYS try to get every single last flake of snow off the roads before moving to the next one so there is no base left, meaning it takes FOREVER to get things plowed around here! Last time it snowed, a couple of years ago, the Federal and Local Governments shut down for 3 DAYS! And we only got 4 inches of snow!! It WAS very cold and icy but even the commuter train system shutdown because alot of their tracks froze as outside DC most of it is above ground.

I went to Minnesota 15 years ago and they had a nice 4 or 5 inch base of snow on the ground, giving good traction for the tires as we drove around. The only problem was getting on and off the roads as the Malls tended to plow down to the bare pavement, leaving a ridge to climb when getting back on the roads. Most had 'ramps' plowed so it wasn't too much of a problem.

I know the farmers need the snow and the freezing temps to make their fields better come Spring, but I also hope YOUR driveway gets skipped in the blizzard!!

I have been to T'ville many times. I live just up route 29 a bit in a little city named Springfield. You may have heard about our Governor training program? No, wait... The Governor's live in Chicago, not Springfield, but I digress.

I grew up (aged at least) on a farm just this side of Wisconsin. I don't mind shoveling snow, a good way to work off the Holidays. My wife does not like snow (Texas Gal) so this is as far north as we can live. I am just glad she is not from Prudhoe Bay!

@Odd-Rod - I hope you are not headed south with just shorts? Looks like a BIG challenge ahead for all involved.

I will be in T'ville this coming Spring for a family reunion, just for a day and then back out though.

My dad was in the Air Force so we traveled ALOT! When I was little we were in Bangor, Maine and it SNOWED HEAVILY, even for there!! When it was all done we had to go out the 2nd floor window and shovel our way back to the front door. It looked funny as all the townhomes had these long passageways cut thru the snow leading into them! As a kid it was FUN, but my dad was NOT a happy camper!! After that we went to Japan, where it rarely snowed, and we lived in a house with a picture window overlooking Mt. Fuji!
